I stayed in Casa Marina Reef (had use of Casa Marina Beach -they were joined so you would walk thru from one to the other) went there in 2001 so a while ago now. The beach was there then, but I would know about the beach now.
When we were there, I couldn't say one bad thing about the place.. The people were friendly/helpful, the food was lovely with a big choice each night, it was clean- maids in everyday to sort the rooms, entertainment every night and was fine. We didn't go out at night time as found the Hotel entertainment fine. They did also have a nightclub on the grounds-we didn't hear any noise etc from it when we didn't go in there ( I think we went in there once).
There are loads of little bars to sit and have drink at etc.
The Jacuzzi's that over look the sea are amazing..
From my visit 4 years ago I would highly recomend this hotel.

Hi claire, i have been trying to find out as much as poss about this place as we go in april but to the reef. I gather from feedback that the beach is there but not as it was since tsunami. A bit cramped but there is another beach from what i can make out. Look at some of the replies sent to me over the last few weeks from people who have been. Chrystyrich especially who has just returned. When do you go? Hope this will help.
oops sorry claire reply should have been to shazc.
Have a great time there-it's brill.
I would highly recomend a trip where you fly to the other side of the island on a 16 seater plane then go by speedboat to an island called Soana (think thats how it is spelt). It is was quite expensive, but well worth every penny though!

The beach was still there when we came away 9th February 2005 although at the time some of it had got a little washed away.
We go on April 8 05 really am looking forward to it. I have been to the Dominican Republic before Playa dora really enjoyed it. went on a daytrip to Sosua and loved the becah thats why we decided to go there this time.
When do you go???
Hi shazc, we go april 11th for 2 weeks. Never been to the caribbean before so looking forward to it. You never know we may bump into to each other. Have a great time. sue
I'm new to this forum, usually visit the Turkey forum. I am taking my 14 year old son to this hotel with 2 friends in september and wondered if we would be allowed to take him into the Disco or do you have to be 18. Never been to the Caribbean before, Been going to Turkey for the last 7 years so this will be a whole new experience for us. Excited but feeling apprehensive at the same time, especially as my husband is staying at home as I have more annual leave from work than he does. He hates the sun, water and beach so has always refused to go on this kind of holiday before so my son and I jumped at the chance of going with my friends who have been before.
Thanks

Hi I've just returned from here in may this year and I was also there in october last year. I love the place and cannot fault it. You do have to be 18 to get into the disco but they did do a disco earlier on in the night for the under 18's. There is plenty to do in the complex and all the young teens I saw made loads of friends and seemed to be having a great time.
We had a wonderful holiday at this "twin" hotel. There were many Engluish teens staying who tended to go off and enjoy the facilities eg tennis far too energetic for me.
There are many great features to this hotel 1st you can walk out the door see kids and adults play Baseball over the road, wander into town, yes a real town with local shops. Take the early bike ride for a free guide around town. 2nd the large hot tubs set in the coral above the beach just relax.3rd 2 wonderful large pools.
We found food good, staff friendly room clean a fantastic 3*hotel better than many 4* based in tourist resorts.
Go enjoy a great family fun hotel for all ages.
can anyone tell me what this place is like i booked it today for my husband and i and our 18 year old daughter and 16 year old son for june next year for two weeks a/i
What do you want to know? Every one who has been says it is a great hotel . Have you read the Holiday Truths Hotel Reviews? Casa Marina Reef seems to have almost all good reviews, not many DR hotels are this liked. 2 GREAT POOLS, BEACH, 3 HOT TUBS, good entertainment at night, choice of where to eat with plenty to choose, many bars clean treated water to ice machines in each block lovely grounds and if you want a change loads of eating places in town. This must rate one of the best 3* hotels around. There is even a very good beautician. Don't worry all your family should have a great time at Sousa
any advise would be appreciated it will be our 1st time holidaying in the dominican we go in june for two weeks a/i
