Hi we stopped in can pic last aug for 14days

2 adults 2kids aged 12 /9

We were halfboard stopping at the hotel Hiati and it turns out the kids didnt like the food we took £1200 with us and had to spend about another £400 to get us through the holiday using our cashpoint cards there are loads of machines scatterd all over the place.

If we went again i would def just take enough euro's to last the first few days and then use our cards :D

hope this helps

If it's a debit card, it has to have a Maestro ( 2 circle symbol red and blue) and/or a cirrus (2 blue circles).

Both my cards were solo, but because the banks have all changed their providers ( remember that anoying ad with the penguins) one is now a visa electron (absolute rubbish can't use it anywhere in the uk, not sure about Mallorca even the bank couldn't tell me) and it no longer has the symbols on.

Check that they'll be in date and have the pin numbers ( I always take a couple of cards incase one gets damaged or retained)

hi.we go to majorca several times a year.we take some euros to start us off then just us the atm machines for cash as and when we need it ,that way you are not carrying large amounts of cash or leaving it in your room.we also use a visa card and have had no problems, but be aware some of the banks make a charge for using atm,s abroad it can make a difference to the overall cost of your holiday.

Hi there

We go to Majorca most years for 2 weeks - 2 adults and 2 children (13 and 16). We usually take about £1,500 in travellers cheques, £200 or so in cash and then we use our cards while we are there for pressys and duty free, so probably about £2,000 in all but I always bring some back. Better to take too much!!!

Hi Bizzilady

You seem to be on the same wavelength as us!! We feel that it's nice to be "rich" for those precious two weeks!!!!

On the very few occasions where we have been able to get away for a week in the winter, we can manage on a lot less though!

I will be travelling to Magaluf with my husband for a week.

We are staying half board, though I understand that usually means drinks have to be purchased with your evening meal (we have had to pay everytime in the past).

I am pregnant and wont be consuming alcohol, going clubbing etc etc. My husband might have the odd San Miguel on the hotel balcony.

We will need to pay for lunch/snacks, drinks etc.

How much spending money would you take for the 2 of you. I don't want to change up a lot to be honest as the exchange rate is pants. We are paying for the hotel by credit card (get a better exchange rate) and were planning on asking if we could settle all drinks, safe etc with the credit card aswell (for drinks obviously consumed at the hotel ;) )

If you don't drink much, ie 3-4 pints a night for Hubby and same in soft drinks for you you'll do it easily on £500!
You'd most likely do it on £50 a day between you!

I'm not too sure though how they'll total up your drinks to pay by card, maybe they can I don't know. I do know though that it's seem a bit odd using your card for every round of drinks!

Chivas

I thought that we'd be able to pay at the end of the week for our bill etc, we did that in Tunisia. When we checked in they gave us a card to give to the waiter etc and they would note we wanted it added to our room. If this hotel don't do that then it wont be too bad, just need to take a bit more spends :D

GoingPlacesGirl.....last year I took £500 just for me for 10 days and went out every night..........

I dont think you'd have to take so much with you.

Me and my bf went to Beni in March and we spent around £600 between us for a week. This included all our excursions, and we went on a lot, and we werent half board, and drinks money came out of this.

I think you'd easily have a cheap holiday!!

ENJOY MAGALUF!! and do Pirates, its great fun!!

San Miguel on the balcony, nothing better at 1 in the morning! :)

With this particular tipple in mind I thought i'd a result paying 1.25 Euros per can on the first night, only to find it at 1.00 Euros the next day.....and as low as 60cents (40p a can!) from , ironically, the nearest supermarket! It pays to shop around.......... 8)

We take £800 for a family of four for 10 days half board (I'm the only boozer) and usually bring some cash back. That's our benchmark, if we spend it all, no worries, if we need more then the credit card gets whacked.
