There is a walk from Kaya Koy to Olu Deniz, it takes a couple of hours and there are some amazing views of the lagoon and coastline. It is waymarked with red and yellow and starts near the church at the top of the village so it's downhill all the way, well worth it for the view alone. As it's in full sun for most of the walk I would suggest morning or early evening as the best time, definitely take water with you!
There is also a nice walk through the forest from Hisaronu to Kaya Koy instead of using the road, it is mostly on the flat so it's much more pleasant, if anyone is interested I'll post it.

Hi scousemouse,

We are leaving for Turkey tomorrow, staying in Ovacik (Hotel Tlos) and would be really interested in trying that walk. Could you possibly post details?

Many thanks
Jess

I am interested in the walk. Can you post it please? I am leaving on Thursday so hopefully you will spot this before then :)

I think Scousemouse has posted this walk on the http://www.Hisaronu.co.uk website.
Might be worth having a look in case he doesn't see this before you go.
Have a wonderful time :D

This pleasant walk of approximately 5km starts from the Asena Village hotel in Hisaronu and should take just over an hour.
It is mostly downhill and in the pine forest so it's not too difficult or hot to walk during the day but morning or early evening would be best. It is the way the horse rides go to the village so you are unlikely to get lost as it's easy to follow the path.
As you approach the gates of the hotel there is a dirt road leading downwards, 20yds on the left take the path into the pinewoods that gently rises away from the hotels in the valley. There is an abundance of butterflies in this part of the woods and already you will hear other birds beside the jays which seem as common in the village as blackbirds in England (strangely enough the Turkish blackbirds are quite secretive). After 10 minutes the path joins a track where there are some graves to the right and opposite these two footpaths, the narrower one leads to the Pine Valley hotel and a couple of feet further on the wider is the one we take. The path continues through the pinewoods to a more open, rocky terrain where you will probably hear the bells of the hundreds of goats that freely roam this area and the whistles and shouts of the goatherds. On re-entering the woods the path turns left (there is an option to go straight head and wind down gradually if it looks slippery) and descends quite steeply to the flat grassy area below, stay to the right and follow the path through a narrow gap in a rock formation. You are now walking along the side of a steep valley, goat paths criss-cross the main path but its easy to follow as it wends it's way down to the valley floor which has the appearance of a quarry but with layers of compacted earth rather than rock. Head towards the track at the far side and the footpath runs a little above to the left gradually descending to rejoin the track. Half a mile further, having passed a small clearing to the left the track starting to rise, look out for a path going down into the woods on the right. This path gradually comes out of the forest into a more rural landscape, past ruins on the right and eventually joins a track near the village cemetery. Turn left on to this track and after a couple of hundred yards there is a path to the right which soon becomes a lane giving you the first view of the deserted Kaya Koy houses on the hillside above, this lane comes out on the main road at the first kebab house.

Thanks Scousemouse. sounds like a lovely walk. I have printed the directions out to take with me :) I will probably try and do that one to get there and then after looking around the one from the ghost town to olu deniz (since thats where I am staying). Or do u think this would be too much walking all in one day (im not that fit)? Is the walk from the ghost town to Olu Deniz easy to follow?

Please do not use phone text ie U instead of you Briar

Katft, I would not recommend you do both walks on the same day, the Olu walk is quite tiring as it's uphill through the village and then quite a few miles on the other side especially in the heat. It would be better to spend time looking around Kaya Koy, perhaps venturing up to the chapel at the top and having a drink or lunch, then tackling the Olu Deniz walk on another day. The path is easy enough to follow providing you remember one thing, a boomerang/arrow shape means you turn a corner. We lost the path and found three other couples all looking for the same thing, I explored a little, the terrain getting steeper and rockier and decided that the path I had followed was not really the trail and made my way back, meanwhile a rather pompous woman appeared.
"This way!" she called to her husband following 100yds behind her.
"It's definitely not that way" I said as she approached.
"Rubbish, there is a distinct path!"
"I think you will find it's because so many people have gone that way and returned" I suggested.
"Here's someone walking up towards us now", she indicated and set off downwards. Her husband looked and me and shook his head, deciding to wait with me despite the obvious repercussions.
All three returned, "We've been lost for an hour" said the new couple.
I suggested we all went back to the last waymarker and spread out, sure enough within 30 seconds one of the men shouted "It's here behind us, that wasn't an arrow at all!" The rest was straightforward.
Louisa, I don't think either route is part of the Lycian way, I have followed part of that by jeep and there is a map available as I saw one in a shop in Kalkan, I wish I had bought it now.

Thanks for that advice scousemouse. I am just finishing last minute packing as we speak. flying at 7pm today :)

I will def just be trying the one easier walk to start with and see how we find that first. Then if I'm feeling fit enough I may try the other a different day although knowing me I will get even more lost than you did, I'd probably start trying to climb cliffs or something as a shortcut!!!

hi, we are hoping to go to the ghost town, when we go on holiday, its sounds really interesting.

A good way to see the village is to book a half day mountain bike trip with Sky Sports.
You start in Hisaronu and cycle down through the pine forest to Kaya. You stop there for a drink and the leader tells you some history and points out some interesting buildings. Then you cycle down to Gemiler beach for a swim before you are driven back up to Hisaronu. Brilliant for all ages and not too strenuous though mind the potholes.
