http://www.skelwith.com or there is one called Limefitt Park that has views as not in the trees it is going towards Kirkstone Pass from Windermere (town not Lake)www.limefitt.co.uk that is a bit more commercialised has its own restaurant and bar but there are 2 pubs in the village within walking distance but a bit touristry for us used to go to The Mortal Man on my horse many moons ago!! if you do not fancy either of these we have stayed at a couple of smaller ones, one in Keswick the other here near Grange over Sands or the Caravan club have one near Coniston but we are not caravan club fans too many rules HTH Gill
Yes your info is correct The planning board do not seem to like caravanners ! at one point they talked of making them all be painted shades of green, khaki and sludge! a lot of the smaller sites by the Lake shores are only allowed tents now,our favourite is Skelwith Fold in the middle of Hawkshead, Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge and is central, the food at The Drunken Duck is excellent it is in all the good food guides (you need to go early or book), for just home cooked The outgate is or should I saw was good as it was up for sale last time we went,
In that case then I'm sure you will love Skelwith Fold you will see Deer and Red squirrels from you van or on walks through the woods we used to live virtually 'next door' we love Derbyshire and Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland also Keilder water but not with the midges also Galloway but must admit to not using the van as much since the kids left home but we are planning to rectify that this year but a bit difficult as would have to take 3 dogs and parrot with us and can only leave my chickens and aviary for 3 days without a sitter!!! enjoy wherever you go regards G
http://www.kilnhillbarn.co.uk may be just what you're looking for. It's a very small site (less than 8 pitches, I think) at the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake, close enough to the (attractive) village of Bassenthwaite to walk there & back after a good meal and a few brews. There's also a pub much closer to hand, although I'd struggle to recommend it - off-hand service, poor choice of beer, we didn't fancy the food. The people at the barn also offer an evening meal, which we tried once and it was splendid. It's not on the shore of the lake, but close by and there are lake views, and plenty of hills to be seen, not least Skiddaw.
Sorry I didn't get this reply to you sooner... I think that Kiln Hill Barn I know a good waterside campsite in yorkshire if it`s any good to you it`s in summer wine country, they say that they filmed a episode of Last of the summer wine on the lake/pond at this site.
The sites at Holmfirth called Holme valley not much there but it has a small lake/pond for fishing and a river round it, you can ask for a lake/pond pich. We found the site on http://www.ukcampsites.co.uk they have a good well stocked shop and you can walk to a good pub that serves food. There`s a few takeaways that deliver details can be found in the shop. We love it, its not far for us and we`ve already booked for another 3 visits already this year.
p.s forgot to mention its open all year round it you struggel to get off in the summer.

If you are camping and caravanning club members, they have a beautiful site at Luss, in Scotland, on the banks of Loch Lomond, with pitches right on the loch shore, with views to die for!
T ,here`s also a place in Wales, just outside Caernarfon, calledGlan Gwna country holiday park. There are chalets and static vans, some overlooking a lovely lake, and a section for touring caravans down by the river that`s really nice.
Sorry, ignore my last post. We were there 2 years ago, and they are still in the site book for this year, but according to their website they no longer take tourers, which is a shame, as the riverside setting was gorgeous.
I heard that there are some small area around lake windamere, is this true, if so doesn anyone have any information.
Many thanks.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but there's a 10mph speed limit on Windermere which is being enforced, so water skiing wouldn't be an option in the water sports dept.
