hello there,
we have booked a holiday to pastida in september and was wondering if anybody has info on it please?
we are travelling with an 8yr old and a 4 yr old.
I know its a small village but just wondering about the local beach and local transport into other resorts.
any info would be great
many thanks
Donna
There's no beach in Pastida as it's a 5 minute drive inland from the coast though i believe there are buses or a taxi will cost you very little to the nearest beach (Kremasti). If i were you though i'd hire a car as Pastida is just off the road that connects the east and west coast - a 10/15 minute drive and you're in Faliraki. Kremasti beach is rocky and shelves quite steeply into the sea though there's always a pleasant breeze, the east coast beaches tend to be sandier and shelve more gently so i'd imagine they'd be better with young children.
The west coast beaches are facing the meltemi wind, thus the sea tends to be quite rough most of the time, well known in the islands but not to brochure writers....
it did seem ok in the brochure, we had to cancel our holiday in june and this was the only 1 that matched our price !!!
cheers for the advice,
Donna x
Hi Donna - no you should be fine. The meltemi dies down in September and in any case Pastida's far enough inland to be sheltered. YOu'll find that eating in Pastida is considerably cheaper than on the coast, as although there are a few accommodation complexes, it is first and foremost a Greek village. Haven't been there for about 8 years, but the Yefira taverna used to be excellent value and the sticky cake/ice cream shop was to die for...
I agree with Elenitsa. Pastida is a lovely village and a good place to explore the island from. Have a lovely holiday
thanks very much
When I stayed at Markika's - if I stood on tip toe on the balcaony , I could (just) see the sea! Really doesn't matter though - it's a really nice, friendly place.
Our friends have also booked to come with us, so all in all there will be 12 of us ...
never been on holiday with a group of people before so that should be an experience .
Marietta is lovely, close to the village centre and the family that run it are great, v friendly and welcoming. I'm sure you'll have a great time!
Thanks very much
