Hi,
I'm staying in a cottage in Beckermet later this year! Has anyone been? Is it a nice walking area of the lakes? how close to the beach is it?
Any info would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Your only problem is that Beckermet is literally next to Sellafield Nuclear Power Station so people tend to stay away from the beach! The Power Station does a free tour which you may find interesting. St Bees, further up the coast is a great liitle place with a lovely beach. Whitehaven, further up still has a nice harbour and in summer there's often something going on. They have a huge maritime festival every two years but I don't know if this is the right year.
Hope you'll enjoy West Cumbria - take a good anorak!!
Sorry Jo - I forgot to tell you to go to Muncaster Castle. They are a bird sanctuary and rescue all sorts of injured and abandoned birds, owls in particular. At 2pm (I think) every day several owls do flying demonstrations outdoors. Herons call in at 5pm to be fed. There are very attractive grounds and views and the castle is interesting too. It's a really good day out!
Roma is right about the Maritime Festival in Whitehaven and it is on this year on the weekend of the 25th/26th June.
Beckermet is a lovely little village, I'm sure you'll have a great holiday.
I live in the area so if you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them.
Can you tell me how long it would take to walk from Beckermet to Egremont? Also what buses run throught Beckermet?
Thanks
