Hi,
Can anyone give me any info on Beckermet? Good walks, any local shops, how far's the nearest supermarket is, resturants, pubs etc.
Would be much appriecated.
Thanks
Hi - there's been a post asking this a couple of months ago! It's a great village with two pubs. Nearest town is Whitehaven with supermarkets and nice harbour - about 6-8 miles away at a guess. Stunning scenery and drives 8-10 miles inland at Wasdale, Ennerdale and Wastwater. It's the most remote part of the lake district and much quiter than Ambleside, Keswick etc.
The Royal Oak is a good pub in the village and the Santon Bridge even better (at Santon Bridge towards Wastwater).
The only downside is Beckermet's proximity (next door) to Sellafield Nuclear Power Station.
Muncaster Castle is a must - an owl sanctuary and really nice grounds to explore. Narrow gauge railway from Ravenglass to Eskdale.
I used to live not too far away so pm me if you have any specific points
