We stayed at the Reef a few years ago and had a brilliant time, we did look to book again now but got another deal in Punta Cana.
I would advise you to have a safe and make sure you put anything of value in it as there were a few things missing from ours and others rooms during our stay.
Watches, expensive sunglasses, cameras and expensive perfume were targeted also designer caps. What you can't get in the safe lock in your suitcase at least then if its broken into you have some proof and can claim on your insurance but I have never had my case broken into they seem to pick things you leave laying around.
I even had my anti wrinkle cream go missing at one hotel (not this one) perhaps the maid thought hers were worse than mine

Sorry to be a pest guys - but you have been really helpful and so just wondered if you could give me info regarding children. I have three - 12, 7 and 6 and wondered what there is for them - entertainment, food, ice-cream etc - you know what its like when you have kids - if they're happy, you're happy!

Hi robbie10 we didn't travel with kids but plenty there. Football, volleyball, table tennis and pool games available. Never saw any ice creams though you can but in the shop and i'm afraid there isn't a kids selection at meal times, only saw chips once and that was in the mexican restaurant where you could have snacks.

Hi
We stayed last June, very family friendly, lots of English kids all ages all seemed to have a great time. We spent much time in the "hot tubs" and children had "pool" games during the day with good shows most evenings. The great thing is Casa is in a Town , take the early morning bike ride (about 10 am) then you know how to walk around great shops, private trips. We had a grand time your kids should love the Monster Trucks. Casa was a great family hotel food ok remember there are 2 hotelas on same site you can use both.

Its been a few years but we found it to be the best 3* we have stayed at in DR.
Its in Sosua, which is fairly lively, they have nightclubs if you really want to venture out at night although the hotel does have a small disco.
Its not luxury but comfortable and the pools are great.
The food was very good and the entertainment was quite good most nights.
They have 3 (I think) amazing jacuzzis right on the edge of the rocks overlooking the sea.
We stayed just before Xmas and it looked so pretty all lit up at night. The only downside that while the beach is lovely the sea can be very rough there, well it was most of our 2 weeks with red flags for no swimming, but there is a nice safe beach in Sosua itself and the pools make up for it at the hotel.
One of the Casa Marinas selling point is that its not as isolated as some of the hotels in DR or in a complex like Playa Dorada so you can get to see how the Dominicans live and work.
I have stayed at better hotels (and worse  ) in DR but I would still go back to Casa Marina and its about the only 3* in DR I would say that about so far.

We stay 14 June 04, having booked "allocate on arrival". It is a wonderful 3* Hotel very family orientated. Our favourite feature was the "hot tubs" set in coral reef above the beach.
I braved their ancient bikes, no real brakes, for a morning cycle around town. Here is a D R Hotel where you walk out the front gate and can wander around the town, eat or drink out at sensible prices, visit the Jewish museum next door.
The Casa Marina Reef has 2 hotels at same location and you can use all facilities at both eg pools entertainment and restaurants.
The evening shows were great fun and very good standard for a 3* hotel.
Staff friendly, we found food o.k.
A great bargain resort

We were there in June and it was the best holiday ever. I can't add much else, just that it was fantastic. Safe, clean, plenty to do, staff fab, food great, drink great, weather fantastic and I totally agree with everyone about being in the town of Sosua. If you do any trips, book them through Mels Tours, just outside the hotel (either side). Much cheaper than through hotel and just the same trips. Do the jeep safari - excellent! Take wee toys, pens, pencils sweets for the kids when you are there though. It is such a fantastic experience.

I am SO jealous! Have a great holiday!!!! If - when - we go back, we will go for three weeks.

Hi,
My mates and I are going to this hotel in April for one week with Thomson. We are not expecting it to be like an english 3 star. Please post me if you have been? Any tips would be good also?

Thanks very much

Ladyodell,

If you do a search of the Caribbean forum, there is plenty of info about this hotel on various threads. This is one example. There are also links to the hotel review section in that thread.

For information about your flights, have a look at the TOM flights thread.

Hi

Can anyone tell me whether we need to take our own beach towels, or do the hotel supply them for the pool?

We are going out on the 10th May for our first time to the Dom Rep. We had booked at the Hacienda Garden Resort, but after some bad reports, and after studying the forums, we decided to change to the Casa Marina Reef, which sounds excellent. We can't wait now.

If anyone can give us any advise on this hotel, it will be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Paula

Hi, I stayed at the Casa Marina reef last October and loved it so much I'm going back on the 16th may this year.
The place was kept very clean and tidy and everyone was really friendly.
I travelled there alone and I'm going back on my own, but I never felt lonely.
Beach towels are provided each day but keep your eye on them as they do charge if you lose them and you can't take your room towels to the beach or pool areas.
I left a tip for the maid each day, small toiletries and a couple of dollar notes as they do a great job and keep the rooms clean.
The safe costs about 15$ a week which I did use for valubles, etc, but anything I did leave lying around the room stayed untouched. The maid even folded some clothes up that I left lying on my bed.
They have sellers and stalls that come on to the complex about 3 nights a week which take a bit of getting used to as they do try to make you buy. A firm "no thanks" works eventually.
I can't recommend the place enough and I'm sure you'll love the place as much as me.
Have a great holiday,
sam

Hi Sam,

Thank you very much for your information. We will be already out there when you arrive. The more I think about this holiday the more I can't wait. The $15 dollars per week for the safe, was that a deposit or is there an actual cost.

I am glad that the hotel supplies the towels, it will save on weight and I can pop something else in the case instead.
