I have read conflicting comments recently, some say 16 and others say 18. Although in some Benidorm bars, some might say 12

I'm told the law is now 18 years old and most bars in my regeon have signs on the walls saying just that,John.

Thanks John ... I have since discovered an old post from one of our Benidorm-based members also confirming that the legal age for drinking and smoking in Spain is now 18. Many (mainly tourists) seem to contradict that, probably based on their own experiences in some hotels and bars.

Definitely 18 here. I'll just have to wait another year then.
