Hi,
I'm off to malta in a couple of weeks and am now firmly in excited-planning-what-to-do and see mode! I wonder if anyone could offer any practical advice about good restuarants?
We're staying in Qawra (Hotel Santana S/C) so places to eat in and around this area would be excellent but we would be willing to travel for the right food! I've already identified Ta'cassia and Ristorante Savini as options but with 14 nights of eating ahead any personal reccomendations would be a big help.
Also, can anybody offer advice about the night bus service from St Julians to Qawra (I think it's number 49) - is it reliable / how frequently does it depart / what time does it run until? Are the taxis reliable? How much is this journey likely to cost?
Sorry for the long list of questions - that's what comes of being excited I suppose!
Thanks for any help.

two tips I can happily give you is (1) buy a weekly bus pass they are superb value and (2) get yourself a good guide book and do the sights / trips yourself as tour reps / companies are a deffinite rip off, ask if you need to know anything else.

I'm sure we'll have no problems getting around in the daytime but am a still a little unsure about the nights. I was a concerned that Qawra/Bugibba might be a little bit 'English pub / steak and chips' which is fine but hardly worth going on holiday for! I thought that we might need to journey out to St. Julians or Valletta for a more authentic dining and evening experience. I have seen a couple of websites that suggest that the situation isn't so bad as I had first thought but just wanted a bit of first hand advice.
Thanks again
Matt
Newsmonkey - there are a lot of english breakfast/steak n chips places in Bugibba - but there's also a lot of local food on offer . Around the town square you can play safe with pizza or steak, but you can also enjoy a lovely rabbit stew (hubby's fav), or if less adventurous a rabbit bolognaise with your pasta (highly recommended!). I can also recommend a pizza with Maltese toppings (very good one on offer at Haqar Qim). Our favourite restaurant is Nostalgia, 14 Mosta Road, St Paul's Bay - a fantastic 3-course meal with wine will cost around £50-£70 for 2.
Have to say we've never risked a late night service - Bugibba bus terminus looks as if it's closed around 11pm. Oh, and last year we decided to go into Valletta for the evening - that too was closed! Quite eerie really, wandering round the streets, it was almost as quite as Mdina!
http://www.starwebmalta.com and you will see exactly what I mean, must admit it's not our cup of tea we prefer to stay in Sliema which is not far from St Julians and Valletta, must admit that this is my favorite area for eating and drinking as there are some pretty good places, please feel free to ask if you want to know my top bars and restaurants in the area.
