Syp Supermarket in Cala Millor where the horse & carriage stand is the best supermarket - locals use it so cheaper than various Spar supermarkets dotted about. Otherwise try Bip supermarkets - again locals use them so are cheaper than Spar.

Pampers in Majorca are called DODOT - same nappy, cheaper and no leaks. have used that brand for 3 children over the last 6 years and never had any probs. If you get them in Syp you can buy bigger packs which again is cheaper.

I really can't recommend the caves of drach - simply because of the way you are herded - stops you seeing anything :!: Porto Cristo is nice but if you have limited time it has to be Valdemosa, Deia and Soller one day and Palma for another.

We have done both caves. First time we did drach was on a bus tour with thousands of others. next time we hired a car got there when they opened. Went into the cave with the musicians. There was only about a dozen punters. We had the whole tour, listened to the music and there wasn't even enough of us to fill one of the boats. A totally different experience. Arta is much smaller but some of the formations are truly spectacular. There was no translation when we went (again by car). The funniest bit though was the guide who kept on repeating (in Spanish) that the stalagtites grow at 1cm per century. We were taking bets as to how many times he would say it.

Sounds like a good idea to get to the Caves of Drach for 10 a.m. then but if the usual amount of security guards are lining the route you still won't be allowed to take photographs. I prefer the quieter but just as spectacular Caves of Arta. We went at the end of August (early afternoon) and there were only about 50 other people in the caves, not the many hundreds you can get in the Caves of Drach. This is because you go in as part of a guided tour (we had an English translation on our tour) and they only allow one group in at a time. The tour took about 40 minutes and there is also a stop in the 'chamber of hell' cave where there is a short 3 minute light show to music. Better still, not a security guard in sight.

Has anyone been on this trip? Went a few years ago with me family-it was brilliant. No cameras were allowed inside the caves when we went though-dont know if this has changed now. When you all sit down, quietly, waiting for the orchestra to arrive on the rowing boats-so moving. My children were 5 and 7 at the time, and were in awe of this spectacle. Dont go with a coach like we did-book yourself a car and make your own way there. Cheaper, plus you get to do it in your own timexxxx :wave

yes we did this trip a few years ago. We stayed in Alcudia, and went by public transport. Great atmosphere.

Best to book the Caves if you can as we knew of people who got the bus first thing in the morning and had to wait 6 hours as it was booked out, they said there was nothing else to do but wait!

First went to the Caves of Drach when I went on my first holiday abroad to Cala Millor at the tender age of 10!!
I remembered how mystical and eerie it all seemed (and how terrified my mum was of going "down in the depths") and took my husband and 14year old son there last year when we went to Sa Coma.
We all loved it!!!!!!! We loved the descent, the lighting, the music, the boats, the atmosphere - anyway we are fans as you can guess.

I remember the first and only time i've gone down them. It was a few years ago, but it was bumper to bumper with people and i couldn't stop to look at anything on the way down. Once at the bottom it opened up into that big cavern and the music started and those boats went by. Then it was bumper to bumper again on the way out.
It was worth it, just to say i've been down, but i bought a strip of post cards once i got back out and can't remember seeing anything like what was on the post cards.

You can get a bus about 10.30 on the main road between the rear of the Helios and Java hotels, it is a service bus that will take you there and pick you up with plenty of time to visit the caves ( 9.50 euros per adult ) a look around Porto Cristo and a pleasant day out at your own pace and perhaps cheaper than with the tour operators.
