Is Lake Garda a place to visit at end Nov/beginning Dec? What will the weather be like?
How much money will we need for 2 weeks?

I'd say November to December cold and wet - but I may be wrong!

I have been to Lake Garda a few times in November, one time the weather was warm and sunny during the day but very cold at night.The other two times it was very wet and cold and lots of places were closed up for the winter.

Hi everyone

I am planning to get married in sept 07 in Garda , Lake Garda.

Does any one know what the town hall is like as this is where the ceremony will take place? Any pics would be great!

Also I plan to have my reception in a restaurant! anyone know of any good restaurants in Garda with maybe some entertainment etc.

Congratulations! Garda is a fab place to get married - the town hall is located directly on the Lake Front and you should have good weather at the time of year you are planning for.

In terms of a restaurant, there are so many good ones it is hard to choose! My personal recommendation would be the "piccolo doge" restaurant - it's about a mile out of Garda, just after Bardolino and the food and atmosphere are fantastic.

The restaurant is right on the Lake Front and I can strongly recommend. I spent 6 years living and working in Garda and Bardolino, so will be happy to advise any way I can. Post any other questions you have or email me direct - I'll be happy to help!

We're going to be at Lake Garda in September as well, staying at the Hotel Caesius in Bardolino. I'd be very grateful if you could give me any advice on good places to eat in/visit and places to avoid. I'd be particularly interested in recommendations of things to do if the weather turns bad, as we ended up being stuck for things to do when it rained for 3 days of our Austrian holiday last year.

Hi, my partner and I have booked flights to Verona Brescia the first week of October, not yet booked a hotel, need some advice on which resort - there's just the two of us (honeymoon ) and we are not driving so need somewhere easily accessible by public transport. I have done some research on the web and it looks like the best resorts for car-less people are on the south end... although it looks like this will this be a trade-off as they are less scenic than the more attractive (mountainous), though less accessible for the wheel-free, northern end? Is there a happy medium
We do want to get in a trip to Verona and Venice too, I've heard there are fairly regular buses/trains - but does this apply in October? The girl at the travel agents said "everything starts shutting down in October" - hope not!
Also, any idea what the weather might be like in that first week of October? Hopefully not the rainy season!

Sorry but I think the weather is quite cold and wet in October - to the previous post - we got caught up in the wet weather last August too - we were in Bardolino (but it wasn't quite as bad!)

Re a honeymoon --------- I'd go for the top end to be honest - more scenic and more places to see in near proximity if the weather isn't too good - if you stay in Riva you can visit Limone, Malcesine (and castle), Torbole (a nice walk), Arco - a lovely town - and still travel down to the bottom end to see Sirmione (plus castle). We also did Verona from Riva as a trip.

I find that the mountains in the North are simply stunning even in a storm - from past experience its not as pretty in the North is the cold and damp ( and that was August!)

Have a great honeymoon wherever you go ---------- if you do go to Riva we recommend the Europa Hotel ----------- superb

I live in Southern Germany and often drive down to Lake Garda for a long weekend at various times of the year and getting good weather can often be a risk, the proximity to the mountains can at times cause very unsettled conditions. I have had storms and cool weather in summer and beautiful weather at the beginning of November. October is often lovely but it will probably be cool in the evenings.

Are the Northern resorts still fairly easy to get to then, without a car? We haven't got loads of money to spend on taxis so don't want to find ourselves stranded, so to speak.

I would suggest car hire as emphasis on Italian rail travel in this region tends to be West-East and not into the mountains. Local buses and boats provide most of the public transport, but a car is invaluable for getting away from the crowds, and to really explore (safely and reliably) off the beaten track. Try the UK consolidators Holiday Autos for fair prices.

There was a reason I asked about public transport - we don't drive! Hence hiring a car is not an option. But thanks for your reply anyway. We'll rely on the buses/ferries, and hopefully we may even get a hotel that provides an airport transfer, if we're lucky!

Just found out that Gardaland is closed the first week in October - typical, that's when we're going and I really wanted to go there as I love rides! Oh well. I'm sure we'll find plenty of other things to do and see!

Hi, could anyone tell me the most sensible and economical way to get from Verona Breschia airport to the Lake Garda region? (not booked accommodation yet so not sure of exact location).

Also, can you book escorted trips to Venice etc from the area?

we have just returned from lake garda and stayed in peschiera at the south of the lake. it has a train station and we went to verona on the train for a trip. not sure from the airport though. but verona to peschiera which is only 15 minutes cost 12 euros return for 4 of us.

from peschiera there are lots of boats to get about on but i thought it was a bit expensive but well worth doing. i think the bus would be cheaper but much longer

thanks for that, We are thinking about staying at the Butterfly site in Perschiera.Looking at the map of the area Verona & Breschia seem to be in 2 different places so which one is Verona Breschia airport? If there's 2 of them which is nearest to Perschiera? And how much would a taxi be from there?

like a previous poster we won't be driving so is the Butterfly site near to public transport, buses and trains etc?Maybe walkable distance to other resorts?

Also is there much to do of an evening in Perschiera?

i don't know the answer about the airports as ours was arranged by the rep, just turned up!
peschiera is not a big resort, lots of restarants and you can walk along the lake side with an ice cream which is lovely or along the river

Hi. Verona Brescia airport is in Brescia. It is sold as Verona by airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair etc. Unfortunately it is not so close to Verona itself. My advice is to get the bus from Brescia airport to the main train station (about 15 mins) and you then have a choice. You can take the train to Verona and disembark at Peschiera del Garda or continue into Verona or you can take a bus from Brescia to SALO on the lake of Garda (WEST SIDE). It really depends which part of the lake you wish to stay at. If you want the east side Malcesine, Bardolino etc it would be better to stay on the train to Verona and then take the bus from outside the station (stand 12) which goes to RIVA DEL GARDA. This will take you up the entire eastern side of the lake (called Gardesana Orientale). There are many wonderful camping sites on this side. Do visit Malcesine and Monte Baldo...it is beautiful.

Hi, going to Bardolino myself in Sept, love the place. I note that your hotel is in Cisano a twenty minute walk along the prom to Bardolino. The prom continues to Garda and that is a 45 minute walk but as long as it is not too hot a worth doing, you can always get a bus back if you feel you need to.

Lots of trips about, Verona, Venice, very tiring if hot, the Alps, and loads of different places to visit around the lake and OK not much fun if raining, deters the strolling which is an Italian pastime, very much so in the evening, but it should not be cold and normally it is not constant rain all day as we tend to see in this country.

The standard of food in this area is fine as many Italians holiday here and they would not put up with poor food. Just remember that Italian food is rarely piping hot, they don't eat it that way, portions are smaller, but the quality and taste are second to none. If you like fish, plenty about in Bardolino.
