My fiancee and I booked our holiday through select holidays last sunday for 1 week, all inclusive, to the club cala romani hotel in callas de mallorca, majorca, flying out on 23/07/2005.
This morning upon the post man arriving I opened my documentation I found that the departure dates were incorrect. So after reading thorugh to check all other details I phoned up SELECT to correct my dates. After discussing with a rather snooty woman 20 minutes she informed the lady whom had sold me the holiday was not in till 1 pm and that she needed to confirm my story before rectifying the situation. In a nutshell,The woman on the phone on Sunday had asked me if I wanted to go the following weekend but I had CLEARLY told her that the 23rd was a better option and could she book this for us. She assured me that was no problem and proceeded to book my holiday.
However this was obviously not the case as my documents were now showing. When no-one returned my call I phoned them back myself and was told that the woman that I had spoke to had yet to be breifed on the situation and that I could not speak to her until this had been done but they would phone me back asap. 1 hour later still no call so yet again I phoned them back only for them to say that I had got it wrong, it would cost me £160 to change my flights and that the woman had been certain that I had confirmed I had requested the 30th. Knowing that this was not the case I then said I was not physically able to travel on this day due to work commitments. SELECT then told me they could refund the accomodation cost but were unable to refund the flights as they were done with THOMSONS, so I would loose £276!!!! After becoming admittedly irate the woman with who I was speaking said "I understand you are upset and I will phone you back in 5 minutes to give you chance to calm down!!!! Trust me this was not the sort of response that was going to get me to calm down. I then had to phone them back AGAIN and spent a further 35 minutes arguing my case to no avail.
Having spoke to a friend I was informed that I had no leg to stand on as this was a no win case that would just go round in circles with it costing more money and wasting more of my time. When I got home I ound the pad that I had wrote the final details down on and it clearly said it was booked for the 23rd, but as my fiancee says what good is that piece of paper I could have wrote that whenever. Needless to say a essay of a complaint letter will be landing on their desks shortly.
I was just wondering if anyone had had this problem and if so how they rectified the situation.
We have now settled, after serious grovelling to our bosses, to travelling reluctantly on the 30th. I am determined to put this behind me and having a nice relaxing holiday.
WARNING TO ALL: If you do book a over the phone make sure you check again and again the details to ensure they get them right and avoid this disappointment.

I feel for you. Had this many yrs ago. The Merrygo round. As you did I gave in. Since then I only deal with local travel agencies, I may not get the cheapest deal, but at least I can go there in person and beat on their desk if they make a mistake. Once bitten twice shy
Cheers

Hope you have a great holiday. I prefer to book mine over the internet, so if there is a problem then I know it's my fault!
Have you asked if they record conversations over the telephone?
We had a dispute a couple of years ago, the company concerned thought they were in the right and said we had to wait until they listened to the tapes and lo and behold WE were in the right and got a refund.
Hi dotchas, yes I did ask them and they said it was only a small percentage of calls that were recorded and that it was very unlikely that ours was one of them. How convenient!!!! I was hoping that might back them into a corner but unfortunately not. Having had this happened to yourselves I'm sure you can appreciate how frustrating it is when you know you are in the right and someone is blantly saying you are not.
If you paid via credit card contact them and dispute the payment.
There is proof that you booked the 23rd, if you had leave already booked for that week then why would you book for a different different. You need to make a convincing argument, why would I book a week I can't have off.
Also, under the Consumer Credit Act, if you pay by credit card the credit card company is jointly liable for the proper performance of the contract. In a dispute such as this which is raised before the date of travel, complaining to the credit card company usually pays dividends
i feel for you, that must have been so so frustrating, when i booked our family holiday with eclipse direct they sent the invoice but one of the names was incorrect - they had my 3 yr old nephew down as a 'miss'...not a major problem but it would have been if i hadnt of noticed and the tickets would have arrived in miss and not master- he wouldnt have been allowed to travel would he?..
when i called them the person who i spoke to said i would have to pay for changing a name!...wasnt even my fault!...so i spoke to the guy who booked our holiday and he was very apologetic and said there was no charge as it was his fault.....
so a happy ending for a change!
hope your experience hasnt put a dampner on yr holiday, callas de mallorca is a lovely place....
have a great holiday,
alison
they basically got the dates wrong and when we had the confirmation we found out we should of flyed a couple of days befpre recieveing the confirmation...
we were fighting a losing battle all the time, and thought we were nvr going get anywhere so we put it all in writing and after many telephone calls and many broken promises we got our money back, eventually!
Good luck, just keep pushing them!
