Hi
I have a great little portable BBQ...quite portable and great for the holidays. If runs on the usual briquettes and is up and running within 10 mins of lighting. I was thinking of bring same on the holidays (it is in a carry case and easily fit in an overhead locker)
Question - would there be any problem in lighting up and cookingon same on the beach in Majorca??? Some authorities might an problem and so decided to ask in advance??? Woudl be handy as the kids are fussy eaters and if I can do the usual chicken /sausage / baked potato it would keep them nourished for the week!!!
Regards
I tried the same thing and was stopped by police --- no BBQs on the beaches
If you did one near me you'd have to give me a burger!!!
Many thanks...... My BBQ only cooks for 2-3 people and is size of a large pot!! Has lid on during cooking so no major signs of smoke. Only when lighting up would there be a small flame visible.
Surprised that the police would get involved in such a 'small thing' especially if being discreet!!!
Funny that.....have offerred to people in the past but they got funny looks and a weary.."..NO Thanks" I suppose if I charged them a few quid them they would jump at the offer....as the song goes "People are Strange"!!
I don't know when or where you're going but some of Majorca's beaches can get very crowded in Summer so it might not be a good idea.
If you have the firelighters in with the BBQ I dont think the airline will want it in the overhead locker.
Not bringing Lighters, Coals or Matches on plane. Will buy all over in Majorca and dispose of same before I return.
All utencils will go in the suitcase to go into the cargo hold.
The BBQ is really a glorified pot (its called a COBB BBQ) with an inner holder for about 10 coals and a lip for holding a grill plate. There should be no problem with airport security (I hope!!) and I can open it up easily to show the contents if there is a query!!
It does a great BBQ and ideal for travelling around. Have used it conatantly thsi summer at home and the wife loves it as it saves her having to do the cooking!!!! I think we could have a great time with it on the hols especially if the 'cooking arragements' in the apartment are a bit 'iffey'!!
Am still in two minds on bring it....need more advice from the forum to make a final decision!!
i wud not unless u like majorcan jails!
Also, as stated, the beaches can be very busy...I don't want you near me when you're cooking
Even if you can't use it on the beach could you not take it anyway and use it on your balcony ? If there is aittle smoke emission then it shouldnt be a problem.
As for the beach.....I wouldn't be so inconsiderate to cook anywhere near sun-bathers etc. I wouldn't like it done unto me ...and so wouldn't do unto others. I was thinking (due to the fact I will have a car hire) that there would be remote spots that we could turn into and park up for a while and eat and enjoy outside of the masses of the usual tourist!!!!
However.....I hear what you all saying and have decided to leave the BBQ at home!!!! Thanks to all for the feedback!!!
