UHT milk is popular with the population of Ibiza because it's allot cheaper than cow's milk for obvious reasons. No cows in Ibiza and I doubt there are many grazing in southern Spain.

Cow's milk is available in most supermarkets though (as well as goat milk) although I don't think they have semi-skimmed, I think its a full fat and pressurized milk for a longer life. Incidentally I always found it went off allot faster than in the UK, probably because of the time it takes to import.

Just in case you are thinking about it, I believe it remains illegal (on a personal basis) to import dairy products or meat products into Spain from within the UK.

Let me know how you get on when you get back, I would be intrested.

My sis has just informed me that she bought CRAVENDALE milk on her holiday to Llorett de Mar earlier this year.
She said it tasted like the milk we get at home but as her kids are young she tends to buy whole milk and she said it had a blue lid (like whole milk in UK)
Theres a good supermarket on the next road up from the resort of San Antonio Bay (I think it was called SUMA)but may not cater particularly for the tourists but I am thinking the local stores could have some in. I will shop around and see what I can find.

When you say they don't cater for tourists? Many people who live on Ibiza prefer cow milk and the Spanish buy it as much as the english, it's just that over there price is a concern because it's imported, and thus many buy the much cheaper UHT.

I think your sister is right, you will only get whole fat cow milk.

If you are on a self catering holiday and you have a hire car I would drive out to the larger out of town Consum or Syp supermarkets which are much larger, cheaper and have a greater variety than the in-town alternatives.

Thanks for all replies,
I think if I have to get whole milk I will water the stuff down a bit and pass it off as semi-skimmed to keep the moody child quiet !!!

You can buy Semi Skimmed and Whole milk in all the supermarkets and don't bother lugging a suitcase full of cereal over they sell all the same brands in Ibiza. The milk comes in Green or Blue cartons and tastes as it does in England.

just got back from ibiza this morn(4.45) and kids so pleased to see grannie had got us some 'normal' milk in so they can have cereal when they get up.
could not get any nice milk in ibiza.
1st morning I made cereal and you'd think I was trying to poison them.
I am about to have my 1st nice cup of coffee this morn and cant wait to get the kids up so they can happily chomp on Weetos!!

Brill hol tho!!! :D

Missing it already :(

Thanks to all who replied and hopefully I will have better luck in my quest for milk next August!

UHT is cows milk! It's just been heat treated to make it last.

'Fresh' milk is available in supermarkets but of course unless you have a fridge it won't last long.

'Desnata' is skimmed
'Semi desnata' is semi skimmed
'Entera' is whole milk with all the cream left in.

Wouldn't it be easier to tell your kids that when they pay the grocery bill then they can choose what goes on the dining table and until then they'll have to eat what they're given?

"GET TO BED" has been said often in 24 hours!
New rotas and rules have been set!

They have 49 and a half weeks to be trained till we go back to San Antonio Bay!!
