Just had to get this off my chest! Hope you don't mind me ranting on, but I'll burst if I don't tell you all!

I'm self employed, so as a 'pension option' we bought a brand new, really lovely villa in Kato Paphos recently. We decided to rent it out as we are only in our mid-thirties......plenty of time 'til retirement!!

I've had a call this morning from our friends out there to say that they have gone to inspect it after our FIRST people to rent it out have been there for 2 weeks and are leaving today!

They have been behaving like ANIMALS!!

HUMAN POO in the pool

Poo all around patio area
Loads of plates with food on them left around the pool, glasses and cups also!
Broken an iron gate leading to pool
snapped key in french windows, lock needed to be replaced
Kids been putting sunbeds on pool rails and running up them to dive in pool, broken brand new sunbeds.
New, never used b-b-q with gouges in it
Smashed vases
Cigarette burns in bed sheets! Had to throw all bed linen and mattress covers out.
Friends had to RE-PAINT all down stairs because off FOOT PRINTS UP WAllS......people been climbing out of WINDOWS!!
Kids throwing water bombs at neighbours houses and windows!

And that's only the things that they mentioned in a quick call at 6.30 this morning!

I'm in shock! This is not a cheap 18-30 apartment, it cost them £900 to rent it! have a look on our website (but you'll have to email me for that because some people might think I'm trying to 'advertise the villa' unfortunately!! (I'm actually a bit too UPSET for a cheap stunt like that!)
I just hope that the next people that we've got in there treat it with a little more respect.

Thanks for listening to me ranting on, I'm out there with my family soon, so we'll find out exactly what's gone on then!

I can't believe people can behave like this!!!!!.......and as you say £900 isn't the cheap end of the market.
How did the people rent it from you? did they give you their name and address?
If they have I would definatley get intouch with them and find out more about why they have done such horrible things to your villa.
I bet it has put you off renting it out again.
People who do things like this are lowest form of human beings and should have it done to them.I am amazed that there are people around who would show such disregard to another person...........

thats bang out of order what they did to your villa some ppl have no god dam respect. as for your plug i dont think theres anything wrong with you plugging your villa on here id do the same if it was me

Fortunately on this occasion we had used 'Paphos Lettings', who do take a large amount of commision (obviously we'd rather people booked direct with ourselves), but this has gone in our favour this time as we will claim the damages through Paphos Lettings because our contract is with them not the customers.
But honestly, it's not the money, it's the hard work that our friends will have to do before we can rent it out again. Peter and Christine have been painting the entire downstairs all day today!
I just feel so let down. Accidents happen, and kids will be kids, but that's just DISGUSTING!

I've seen lisa bs properties and they are lovely.

That's a shocking thing to happen to one of them. Hope your friends took
photos lisa. Make sure you get money back off your letting agents.
I think if lisa puts a link to let us see the type of property she
is talking about then that's fine and there's no need for cheap cracks.

Exactly Lisa accidents do happen,the odd broken plate,cup ect but noth that!!!!.......It has really amased me that there are people out there who could actually do this to someone's home.If they did this to you go only knows what state their own home is in.........At least on this occasion you can claim for damages but thats not the point.Does the lease company not vet people? bet all there bothered about is making as much money as possible.......
It has really made me feel sick and I really feel for your friends who actually found it like that and have had to clean it all up.
If they people renting had still been there I would have rubbed their noses in it just like you do with dogs......

Totally out of order, I hope you manage to get it sorted with the letting company. Surely they should pay at least one visit to the property to ensure it is being respected.

How very disappointing for you Lisa.....

The problem is, how can you 'vet' people who are renting. I am always amazed at the way people treat hotels, etc, and often wonder if they behave the same way in their home.

I would be very interested to see your villa, and don't have a problem with any 'plugs', means we know who we are dealing with.

Have to tell you there was a recent thread running on my web site about this very subject, some of my family maintain villa's and apartments clean and make ready for the next guest, some of the people leaving are absolute pigs, you would never believe how they treat your property, I guess this must be how these disgusting people live in the UK, I for sure would never rent my property out here I have seen enough of what some of these holidaymakers can do to your place in the sun.. :evil:

My dad actually has a villa in Spain - Costa Blanca and will only let it out on long term leases,after he has met and veted them for this reason!!!....He just didn't want the hassle and the upset of anything like this happening.

Im sure you will have some type of correspondence regarding this couple - if this was my property, i would be making contact with them immediately!

Were the renters "British" the only reason I ask is because my wife and I used to rent houses out in the UK but the way some people abused them was beyond belief. I am talking about resedential homes and even people we knew treated them with no respect whatsoever, so god only knows what some of them will treat a holiday home like, it is just unbelievable. In the end we just sold up and got out of the renting business. :roll:

Sorry to hear about your trouble.
When we were buying thought about renting , then while we were on an inspection trip we rented an apartment ,

I was a careful as possible in the property but the leg snapped of one of the plastic patio chairs when my son-in-law leaned over to put the baby's bottle on the table.

We offered to pay the damage to replace it, but Sue was very good and said it seems the set was rubbish anyhow and she was just glad no-one was hurt,

While we were there we witnessed renters climbing out of windows to get to the pool. climbing over balustrades, Throwing things around it was quite embarrassing really and appeared to have no respect for the property what so ever.

This combined with stories we heard from others, thefts, mattresses being ruined with you know what, damage to the properties.A/C left running 24/7 . also the poo everywhere seems to a favourite....God knows who these people are.

Needless to say we decided to give renting a miss and although sometimes I think I could be making a bob or two I just think about all the friends who have had some kind of horror story to tell....

I hope you manage to get your place sorted out , it must be frustrating especially when you are not there. Sounds like you have good friends there to help and support you.

If it's a problem, then i'll remove the link. Just thought it'd be nice for people to see what i'm talking about.
It's a shame that I haven't any BEFORE and AFTER photos, after the 'monsters from the pits of hell' had visited that is!! But we had to get the place re-decorated in 24hrs for the next people to arrive.

And yes, the people WERE British. My friend Peter and his wife Christine are quite forceful and hopefully will have voiced their thoughts on how the place was left to the customers, but they are feeling now like it's not worth the hassel!

People who have booked directly through ourselves have been in quite regular contact and all seem like respectable people, though I suppose you can never really tell. Well, it's taught us some hard lessons and now people will be given some harsh terms and conditions when they book!

Live and learn eh????

Hope that rain has been and gone for when we arrive, Jim, although I bet you are quite glad of it!

Had to comment, I think these people are disgusting! How can people treat someone else's property like this and get away with it?

We have 3 kids, 14months, 5 years and 9 years and we teach them to treat the places we stay with respect.
