HELP!!! I am SO livid with Virgin.
Next March my Husband & I are going to LA Hawaii & Vegas to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary ( 30 years ).
We decided to book seats in premium economy on the outbound flight to start the holiday off in a special way. When we did this the aircraft was a 747. Virgin have now changed this to an airbus. I rung & asked whether as on a 747 we have seperate toilets & was told that 'No you don't you go into 1st class for the toilet'.
On a 747 the premium economy part has its own loos. We have now been told that for the pricely sum of a £500 upgrade we have to go back into economy & queue with everyone else!!!!
The reason we upgraded was as I have already said but also I am a menopausal lady suffering with irritable bladder & I did not want to have to stand for ages waiting to go to the loo which will be frequently on an 11 & a half hours flight.
Its not just that. Virgin Atlantic have been quite insulting & advised that the information I was given is a 'training issue ' & suggested that we contact Virgin Holidays & ask to downgrade to economy. How helpful is that ?
BTW the flight back form Vegas is a 747 so no problems there.
Any ideas ?????
Thanks in advance
Sue
speaking as a mere male I hope you sort this out. Though I have found that on long-haul flights the queues only tend to build up as you approach the destination airport. I know but its weird. I have flown with VA for the last 15 years and cannot fault them. Please don't let yourself get wound up, it will be ok. And you never know your'menopausal' problems may not be so inconvenient by the time you come to fly(please correct me if I am wrong, mere male after all!!( But it's our Pearl next year so I have this to organise yet!)
If as you put " you go into 1st (FIRST CLASS) to the toilets" there will not be a large queue.
I don't see how you can blame Virgin Atlantic just because you don't have your own loo to use! Surely if they have said you can use the First Class loos then whats the problem?
As previous posters have mentioned, you can make use of the first class section toilets which should mean ever shorter queues.

For our Silver Wedding 5 years ago we flew to Florida with Virgin. Because this was a special occasion we paid the premium upgrade supplement (about £350pp I think). We had flown Virgin before in economy so knew what they were like. We had to use the toilets in economy which we found unacceptable and had the same food as everyone else although we it on 'proper plates'. Personally we thought that it was not worth the extra money and told Virgin so to which we got a standard reply. Yes, we had extra leg room and extra width - the cabin was probably a bit quieter - we got bucks fizz as we boarded but we also had the problem of the person in front of me as soon as we were up in the air putting his seat right back. We nearly had a full blown argument when the meal came round and he was not keen in putting it back up - he seemed to think that because he had paid extra he was entitled to do whatever he liked. Made for a very uncomfortable journey and a few black looks!! We have not flown Virgin since and do not intend to. If we go back to the states we will try either American Airlines (who have more leg room) or BA.
I think it's important to remember that premium upgrades in Economy class seats on airlines like Virgin and Monarch and most charter flights are just that - a bit of extra legroom, a slightly wider seat, priority boarding and possibly a higher luggage allowance but it is not an upgrade into First Class which would command a much higher supplement and one can't expect all the 'extras' that come with First Class. If that is what you want you have to pay for it accordingly. As someone who is only 5ft 2ins, has never found the seats uncomfortably narrow and tends to sleep throughout most of any journey longer than an hour, I've never bothered with these sort of upgrades - they don't strike me as being particularly good value for money, even on longhaul. Now if I could actually afford the full First Class ticket that might be a different matter. I got the taste for it when bumped up some years ago on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong but the income has never been 'bumped-up' to match since then :-)
'Surely if they have said you can use the First Class loos then whats the problem'
'As previous posters have mentioned, you can make use of the first class section toilets which should mean ever shorter queues.
Suggest you read my original posting properly !!!'
I was originally told that we could use the 1st class loos. Virgin have now moved the goal posts & have told me that I was informed wrongly & that we have to go into economy to use the toilets. !! All for the pricely sum of £510 for the pair of us.
We were misinformed when we made the upgrade by Virgin but have been told that if we try to go back now to economy they will make an administrative charge of £35 each!
A toilet is a toilet, if you are that desperate to 'go' you will use whatever is available - and if you explain your medical condition to the onboard staff in a polite way, there is a good chance they will let you use the toilets in First Class
It's only a toilet for goodness sake - surely there are more important issues going on in the world today??????
Find something else to moan about!
OK, keep it friendly folks or this topic may have to be locked.
Sorry & all that but I feel very strongly about this particularly as I am a lot of money down. Whatever your opinions I was given wrong information.
my sympathies are with you. The details of where the toilet is located is irrelevant (unless they are outside). When you booked and paid the extra for the upgrade you did so in good faith and with the knowledge that the aircraft being used was a 747. Now Virgin have made a change and the configuration no longer provides the same facilities they are failing to meet their contractual obligations.
I think you've two choices, demand a written agreement from Virgin that you are permitted to use the first class section toilets or demand a full refund of the upgrade fee without them levying an administration charge. If they agree to neither, write to your credit card company (if you paid tickets via a credit card) and explain their merchant has failed to provide the complete service paid for. Get the airfare charge amount 'frozen' until the credit card company investigates and resolves.
I've posted this as a new topic as the previous topic was unexplainedly locked and I was unable to reply......in a polite manner as required by the moderator.
I think you'll find that virgin are covered in their terms and conditions that due to operational reasons or whatever they can change their aircraft. The customer is still getting the Premium Economy service. She still has access to a toilet.
There are plenty of toilets on both the A340-300 and A340-600. I really would not worry about this.
VS will also pre-seat you near to a toilet area if you ask them.
(PS - Upper Class if not First Class. Virgin don't have a First Class cabin they market the UC cabin on the basis of a first class service at a business class fare. I think it is worth every penny!)
You pay for an upgraded seat/service, not a toilet facility! How sad that some people really do let something like that rule their lives!
Dont blame VA, they can change their aircraft without explaination.
I cannot believe the flack I have had to take from complete strangers who know nothing about me
What right do you think you all have to be so judgemental ? You know NOTHING about my personal situation & the reasons why behind this yet I have received some very spiteful attacks.
Theis has been nothing compared to some of the pathetic postings that people put up on this site yet they are supported. I have had many a good laugh at some of them but would not dream of anwering them is the way I have been answered.
I think the moderators have done an extremely poor job in allowing what I have had to take go on !!!!!!
You came onto the forum and made a complaint about Virgin holidays and their change of your flights carrier.
The members answered you as they saw the situation regarding what you could do about your complaint. Basically there wasn't a lot you could do in the eyes of travel law.
If there were posts that you objected to then you should have contacted a moderator. At the time of your last post you replied to the previous person within 18 minutes of them posting blaming the moderators.
I'm sorry you didn't receive the replies that you hoped for and I hope you will find a site that suits you better than ours.
I will lock this topic now as it is obviously a closed topic with your departure.
