Finally booked for Bitez after reading all the reviews on HT. Although we had a wonderful time in Turunc - June/July we craved one more 'Turkish' week as it were before winter.
I have no worries about the accomodation - again due to HT reviews, we are staying at the Sirca Apartments.
My only worry as such is Bodrum Airport, we are Bodrum Airport virgins!
We could not face Dalaman again this year so when we saw the reviews on Bitez it seemed perfect, but now with 2 weeks to go I have a hell of a lot of research to do on Bodrum Airport!
If anyone has any advice/suggestions I would really appreciate it, daft really what can 'throw' you isn't it, I mean if I can survive the scrum half that is Dalaman I should be ok... Ron
Compared to the scrum I had at Dalaman this year - Bodrum will seem like a walk in the park ! - very modern - but then it was built to cope with the tourists and I hope that the new terminus at Dalaman will help sort out the problems there.
Bitez - great place , nice beach and only a Dolmus ride away from Bodrum.
Enjoy
Toffeemen
There is more information about peoples experiences of Bodrum airport on these threads too -

Thanks Toffeemen - booked this just before the weekend, I know I can get to Gumbet, Bodrum,Turgetreis etc and never have any worries about exploring new places, - it is just airports ugh! I know they are a mean to an end but unless I know where everything is I can't relax. I'm not worried about duty free or such but where are the toilets, visa control(not that i need it this time) - unfamiliar territory ugh
Thanks Elaine, guess we posted at the same time
we found Bodrum really easy peasy,I suppose it may be different at different times of the day( we arrived around 21.30) and it could'nt have been easier,It's only a small airport so you can't get lost. The visa part was quick and easy, waited about ,5minutes for that, cases came along quickly too and while some of us waited for them to be collected we nipped over to duty free for essential alcohol. Our pick up was there waiting as promised and off we went on our merry way.
had a fantastic time in Bitez, have'nt got over it yet and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Mel
also make sure that you dont overload your suitcases as they are very keen to slap a charge on you for overweight cases!!
The toilets at Bodrum airport are on the right hand side as you come through passport control, by the duty free shops.
You will get a bus from your plane (albeit 10 yards) and they will drop you off right by the visa control point. Bodrum arrivals area is very small so there's no trouble with getting lost!

Got night flights, not everyones cup of tea but hopefully not as crowded as daytime... I hope
Unfortunately the International part of Bodrum airport is only really open for charter flight arrivals (plus a small number of people flying to Istanbul for connecting International flights), and as charter flights tend to land at the same time, Bodrum airport will be as busy at night as it is during the day!
The airport has the capacity to cope with this number of people arriving at the same time as this is what it was built for so you should get through fairly quickly.
Karen
Just come back from greece, corfu!!!! very unorganised airport thats heaving with hundreds of people!!!!!
turkey virgin, just booked for next year!!!
How the hell can you say Bodrum airport has the capacity to cope when flights leave every 20 minutes and there is absoultuely no seating for more than 200+ passengers!!!
I haven't managed to find a seat once through passport control into the departure lounge at all in the last 2 years at Bodrum airport.
But theres lots of space near the gates to sit on the floor while waiting to board.
Elaine
Im goign to be getting a bus from Kusadasi to Bodrum .. then was hoping to get a bus onto the airport.
does anyone know any details? if it is possible? what bus comapnies do it??
my flight isnt until the evening so ive got all day to get there ..just getting a bit panicy!!
Thanks
You can get the Havas bus from Bodrum to the airport. This leaves Bodrum about 2.5 hours before the flights, but check on the board at the bus station if you can. The cost is about YTL7 per person.
To save you going from Kusadasi, past the airport and onto Bodrum, then back to the airport, is there not a bus that can take you from Kusadasi to Bodrum airport?
Karen
PS - I've always found a seat in the departure "lounge" at Bodrum airport, but it does get busy at peak periods. Anyway, by the time you have been delayed in the queue at check-in, then queued again for passport control, there's not a lot of time left to sit down!!!
Im looking into getting a bus direct from Kusadasi .. but i dont think there is one!
Just wanted to warn those who may not have departed yet that Bodrum airport are extremely strict (greedy ) about their baggage allowance. It seems that all travellers will now require the use of a set of scales to check their weight as even 1 kilo over the 20 is being punished.
Can you tell me if it is 20 kilos per case or per person as there are five in our family going and we would rather take less cases than one each. Any information gratefully received.
Normally if you do a late booking it is only 15kg. Booking further ahead on charter is normally 20kg per person. Going scheduled is 23kg with BA to Izmir from 2006.Oh, and normally 5 or 6kg hand baggage.
Cheers
Lorraine
Does anyone know the maximum each case can weigh as I know there are now restrictions due to health and safety of the airport baggage handlers?
