Quiet hotel, very basic and a bit far out from Calangute town centre, too far to walk in the heat. If you've got a car rental or moped you'll be ok, otherwise you really will be spending taxi fare alot on going back and forth throughout the day.

No A/C, no telephone in the rooms, no TV, no lifts, rooms cleaned every other day, no hotel entertainment, no kids club.

There are more than 12 studios as stated in the hotel review section. When I was there 4 months ago, there were 4 blocks with at least 12 studios in each block. I had no problems here, but wouldn't stay again as too far out for me.

Check for my hotel review within the next 2 days.

Just off the road to the right as you travel in from the airport......just on the edge of Calangute. We were offered it early this year. I did a bit of research and found out that it didn't come up to standards so was having a complete revamp. One lot of the blocks had been finished..in process then of doing other block. Wasn't that far from the Osborne....if the price was right wouldn't put me off staying there.

No A/C but there are fans which were fine in keeping us cool. There was entertainment - Kareoke/singing band etc every other night. We did not find it a problem having to get taxi to calangute. Saves carrying beach towels etc!

I would def go back to this hotel (and im a fussy person!).

 We've never had a/c in any of the hotels we've stayed at in Goa!  We've always found the fans adequate though. As for 'entertainment' within the hotels  :yikes   ...we never stayed around long enough!!!  Just hearing it as we shot through was enough on all accounts!!! :rofl Why go all that way and sit around the pool all day AND night!?? You'd be surprised though just how many do!!!

Hi,Just had to join and comment on this hotel and warn prospective holiday makers. We are big fans of Goa and in fact plan to live there very soon. However we stayed at this hotel for the last two weeks of the season this year and found it totally unbearable.
We've always been well aware of the powercut problems in Goa but the way this hotel operates beggers belief. The one thing you do need(in April)is a fan. This hotel(in my opinion)deliberatley turned the power off regulaly to save money(there were only six rooms being occupied at the time, mainly because others had long given up)once it was off for two days. This is while every house and street light around was shining like a beacon. We had the pleasure of an Indian delegation for a day and as they arrived the power came on.I told them it was a miracle.
Even by Goan standards this hotel is basic.and too far away from Calangute.Having said this, the pool is lovely and the bar staff are absolutly super.I complained to the management and also to Jewel in the Crown.I told them I didn't want any compesation but they needed to be aware of the situation.
The second week we slept at a friends who had 24hrs electicity.

Must disagree with the last post. Stayed there in Feb 2005 and found it perfectly adequate. Great bar staff and good food. Basic amenities but what do you expect for the price you pay?

I think you'll find that if you if you are ever in Goa at the end of the season the weather is somewhat different to that of February.therefore a fan is a must.

I totally agree, it's soooo hot and humid, I sit on a plastic chair under a cold shower at least 3 times a day. Even the AC struggles to keep you cool!!

A friend has been offered this accomodation for March, Ive never heard of it before It,s supposed to be beside the church in the centre of Calangute and is suposed to be new. They have got it into their heads that it might be a dormhouse place. Any help or info. would be appreciated I think it might be beside the Nizmar resort but if it is that one I dont think I've ever spoken to anyone who'sstayed there Alan

Hi Gramps
I stayed there last year, not too bad, usual 2* hotel. Great bar staff. Didn't use the facilities much, just a base to put my head down after all.. :) It's a bit far out for some, if you know where the fountain is in Calangute then its not to far from that on the Mapusa rd

Does anyone know how far the Village Royal is from Osbournes? We're looking to book for December.

I would say it's a couple of miles out from the Osborne situated in the countryside Not stayed there but speaking to people who have stayed there they said it was fine, the drawback being everytime you leave the hotel it's a taxi fare and while they are cheap in Goa it all mounts up over a couple of weeks Alan

Yes...it's on the right hand side not too far from the BIG white church that you see on arriving at Calangute (NOT St Anthony's Chapel!).

Actually, provided that you stay in the newly built building it's abit of a tip. My friend stayed there last year. I've seen places going cheap in the travel agent's window but that is most likely for the older building. It's in the middle of nowhere and yes, the taxi fare will mount up over the weeks so the cheap price for that hotel is really a false economy, although they do provide a little known service of a free occassional bus trip to Calangute beach twice a day only -once going and once coming back.
