anyone been to the above holiday park in northumbria? have booked for a gold 2 bed caravan in september.going with hubbie and his parents, so are using it as more of a base than anything else. probably wont use many of the leisure facilities, but will probably go to the bars and watch a few of the shows and stuff. been reading some of the reports of other haven parks and some for pontins just wondered if anyone had any opinions on the location , ideas of prices of drinks etc.

hello y'all!we stayed here about 4 yrs ago and,for someone who is not a big fan of Haven as a whole[this is a sister park-british holidays!]we were most impressed with this park!lots to do on the park,probably the cleanest park i've stayed on,and very well organised!on a downside the area is fairly quiet!lovely beaches and friendly people but it would not be brill if it rained and you liked getting about!
would be very happy to reply to any questions!we intend to return some day[and i'm rite fussy!]
as i said before-brill park but quiet region!
ps the club really THROBS on a nite!beware if you near there!

Going to Haggerston castle for bank holiday weekend--anyone been to this site??Whats it like.

Also where are the best places to visit considering we are there for only 2 days(2 kids under 6!!)

Anybody help looking to book 3 caravans at either haggerston castle or berwick for weekend the end of september tried to book through haven but these are too expensive anybody any idea where to find the private owners websites been on a few but they have no availabilty thankyou in advance for your help catherine

hiya, just got back yesterday from haggerston castle which is a brittish holidays park.

we stayed in a gold 2 bed caravan which was fantastic, very well equiped kitchen, tv and dvd player in the lounge and even a tv in the twin bedroom, heating throughout which was a must as it was quite chilly!
the park is huge and we were in Troon which was as far away from the entertainment complex as you can get. this wasnt too bad as we were 4 adults so we didnt mind the walk, works out about a mile away. however there is a large car park near to the shops and entertainment area and a lot of people seemed to drive and park there.
in the complex you had the usual amusments, slot machines, pool tables etc.there is a kids bar which is called carnabys i think, most of the kids activities and stuff go on here during the day.in the evening they have bingo, a quiz and then some sort of show, cabaret, comedy, and then a disco.after 9pm everything goes on in the showbar.
food and drink wise, there was a burger king, chinese restaurant,hot dogs, pizza burgers and stuff in carnabys bar. never actualy ate in any of them so not sure of prices but drinks were what we expected to pay, about £5.50 for a smirnoff ice and a pint of larger.you could get a pitcher of larger or beer for about £7.00, alot of people seemed to do this.
there was an onsite supermarket that sold essentials, however we drove up to Berwick on our first night and did our shopping there as it was alot cheaper.
if you want a change of scenery then Berwick has some nice restaurants. we went to a Wetherspoons called The Salmon or something like that, had maincourses and deserets for 2 of us and a bottle of wine came to about £25 not too bad.
all in all the week was very good. we really only used the site for a base for touring the area, so didnt use the swimming pool or anything but what we did see was very good. if anyone was is planning to go there then i would suggest requesting a caravan by one of the lakes or the area called Lakeside as this was about half way between the complex and where we were. any closer than that and there is noise coming from the bars and things which could disturb young children.

We have been going since our daughters were toddlers (now in late 20's) and we have always really enjoyed it. The swimming pool is excellent, especially in the summer when the outdoor one opens.

We tend to visit the nearby beaches and also Berwick and other little villages and towns.

There is lots to do at Haggerston Castle, from the Pool and Bingo to little boat rides and out of park visits.

We always have a good time there and we are going this October too.

the caravan site is excellent, the caravan we had was lovely, the facilities that we saw were very clean and tidy, and the surrounding area and coast line is breathtaking!
tell me what you have heard that is bad and I will try to put your mind at rest

thanks for that on the trip advisor site 2 reviews were that it was filthy and would never stay again one of them only returned a fortnight ago, bedlinene in caravan was also dirty

i've just had a read of those reviews and i couldnt disagree more.
perhaps we were lucky but we had no problems.
with regards to checking in, because we were in a gold caravan we could check in from 1:30pm.we didnt though we got there for about 3:30pm and there were definatly no queues to be seen.
the amusements are more expensive than if you were at the seaside or somewhere, but unless your a serious gambler then i cant see a problem.they have the usual 2p and 10p slot machines which are just that price, pool tables and air hocky were £1 a game whaich is slightly expensive.(although when i play pool the game lasts about 2 hours coz i cant hit the balls!)
our beds were made up on arrival, and the linen was immaculate, and as we were leaving they delivered the linen for the new people and it was all packaged up like it had just come from the cleaners.so no problems there.the only slight problem we had was that the gas bottle was nearly empty, however we went up to reception on our way out one day to tell them and when we got back that evening we had a full bottle again.
and the entertainment area was fine aswell.we obviously didnt go during the school holidays so that might make a bit of a difference, but there was more than enough tables and chairs and yes it is dark when they turn the lights down for the shows and stuff but your still able to see fine.

it could depend when your going, and what grade of caravan your in but our experience was excellent.

We are booked up to go in 3 weeks time. Its my first time, but my girlfreind and her famliy have been going every year for ages now. They speak very highly of the place. They have only ever had accomadation problems once in anout 30 visits, but they got upgraded to a gold star cararvan for nothing because there normal caravan wasnt cleanes proparly. So im hoping in 3 weeks time, the caravan isnt clean again, wouldnt mind staying in a gold caravan. Hope you enjoy your visit, let me know how you get on.

Spent a few days here a couple of years ago mainly to use as a sightseeing base.
The site itself is easily accessible on the A1. It is a lovely site with a lake.The caravans are clean & well equiped. We didn't use the facilities apart from the bar so I can't comment on these.
As I said we used the site as a base ,places we visited were Edinburgh Castle , Berwick , Holy Island and travelling back home we stopped off at couple of Roman Sites at Hadrians Wall.
