Hello Mrs Moo, and wecome to the Malta site. Malta has upgraded its hotels over the last few years from a lot of 2 and 3 star ones that were a bit run down to a lot of 5 star ones, most new ones built now are 5 star so you should find that there is one with your name on, try this site as a starter.

If you need any more info on Malta you could take a look at a posting called Dave's Malta Guide about half way down the Malta page.

Hi Mrs Moo,

Like Dave says there are lots of 5 Star hotels now on Malta. I would say that they are all excellent from what I have heard from folks staying in them and from what I have seen from nosing around these places when we've visited.

There are also plenty of good quality 4 Star hotels worth cosidering as well,

Good idea Mark perhaps Mrs Moo could do what me and Mrs Holidaymaker are doing next year, have a twin centre holiday one week on Gozo and one week on Malta.

Have you been down and had a look at the night life in Xlendi for me yet Mark? I can only remember the one bar on the corner as you get to the sea front and was there one next door or is that a restaurant?

surely you are not suggesting I didn't do my homework are you ?? Just for you, I perused the bars in Xlendi, and can report back they are more than satisfactory ! -do you mean Moby Dicks ??

Hello Mark, if thats what it is called then yes, I was 12 years ago since I was last in Xlendi so not up to date with bars and restaurants how many bars would you say there are. Could I do a pub crawl and walk back to the hotel sober? also has the beach got any bigger?
Plus the dog on the other post looks very hansom does yours catch many of those rabbits for the pot

rabbits are purely for its own consumption !

beach is still small - number of bars ? if you include the hotels and those restaurants happy to serve those only drinking, I'd guess close to ten, so depends on your drinking capacity ! Real bars, maybe 3 or 4 (though of course, no real ale :( )

Thanks peeps!

Had a look round and we quite fancy,

The Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort in St. Julians
The Westin Dragonara in St Julians
or the Kempinski San Lawrenz Resort on Gozo.

Any one been to any of these? I had a look on the reviews section, but couldn't see any of these, is that because they are new?

Thanks!

I've stayed at the Hilton on a number of occassions. I've always had a fantastic stay and the beach club is great with a choice of 3-4 pools. You can also eat at a number of very good restaurants in the exclusive Portomaso apartment complex about 2 mins walk away.

Hi Mrs Moo,

We stayed at the Westin Dragonara about 3 years ago, the first room they gave us was not very clean (bearing in mind this is a 5* hotel) and the carpet was stained , they relocated us to a nicer room, I had booked a king size bed and a single for my daughter (7) and we ended up with two king size beds! The room we booked also had a lounge area with a sofa and TV around the corner from the beds area, which meant at least we could relax after my daughter had gone to sleep

Hi Mrs Moo
We also stayed in the Westin about 3 years ago. Its a very nice hotel, large rooms with two king sized beds, big bathroom with toiletries, good restaurant and pools. Lovely flower decorations everwhere. All the things you would expect of a five star really.

The reason I'm posting though is to say that of all the 5*'s we considered, it was probably the most family orientated (that's why I chose it) for example with every evening meal you purchased children under 12 ate free. Although that may have changed. I know you are going in June when in theory all children should be at school, but as I'm not sure of the make up of your party I thought I would just mention it. In July when we went there were lots of families, making the pool area very busy. Brilliant if thats what your looking for. :gluck

Hilton Hotel, Portomaso. Fantastic place, great beach club with 3-4 pools, loads of good restaurants and nightlife.

Sorry should have also mentioned in my first post that we stayed in the Ta Cenc on Gozo the week prior to staying in the Westin. It was a lovely place to stay and had a completely different ambience to the Westin, quieter with a more adult feel to it. It might be another 5* for you to consider, when you are drawing up your shortlist.
Happy Hols.

Hi again,
Sorry did not have time to finish my earlier post (boss came back!) regarding the Westin Dragonara, I wanted to say that the pool was closed 5 times during our 10 day stay (usually for about 1 hour) due to water quality, I guess a few accidents from so may toddlers!! Also when it was busy it is very difficult to swim at all and most people just stood in the pool due to the amount of bathers.

Be prepared to get up at the crack of dawn to get a sun bed unless you want to bribe the pool attendants- (which I refused to do - yeah for about 2 days! Then I handed over my money like every other fool, but at least got my sunbed).

There is no beach here, but a concrete cove with some very slippy steps into the sea, water was very clean and clear.

We went in August and it was very hot, almost too hot to go sightseeing, Paceville seems to be full of young men, which might have interested me 25 years ago, but unfortunately now a days I just want a good meal and a drink!

Nice restaurants around the hotel, but some places bit seedy/tacky. We visited the Casino for a night out whcih made a change.

Overall I would say like a previous post, Malta... been there done that won't bother going again. There are nicer places with better facilities/beaches/childrens clubs....try Sani Resort in Halkidiki, it really knows how to do 5* (Sani Porto Village and Asteria suites-not hotel)
