EX-Pats and Owners Abroad

Discussions for EX-Pats and owners abroad or those who are considering this idea.
Hi All,
I have been doing some EGP's so have'nt been on of late, the forum seems to be very quiet at the moment. I wish I had already gone to NZ Suzanne but I'm still trying to sell my house. I saw your entry on the other forum about your friends in Auckland, sounds like they are having a bit of a tough time at the moment, glad to hear they are battling through it. If S.C.O. 's do C.O.'s jobs on the Wings what do the C.O. 's do? Have you got any further on in the application system yet? I got my visa through the other day and have until 4th October 2006 to move then 3 months from arrival to take up the job.Scott how is your move going? Have you got your Visa yet or sold your house? Robbo, like me is trying to sell his house and has just applied for his Visa.Well I will leave you all now and wish you all good luck, tony.

Some interesting threads on the british ex-pats forum mate, check um out. I just started one myself actually.

Just had my appendix out mate. Been in stinking hospital for the last 3 days. Not rushing back to work either. They pay me for sick in this country so i'm gonna make the most of it whilst i'm here.

see ya soon.

Hello Tony

It's been a Long time.

Just looked on this site as a just in case really and was so glad to see your reply as I haven't been on this site for ages.

We are in the middle of doing up our house at the moment and I can tell you it's really a mess. We seem to do everything backwards way on. Well we had a message from the NZ immigration to tell us that we only have until 08 December to get in our app. We now know that we Must make our minds up. From what I have read on the British Expats site and also from what Paul in NZ has said, it has put me off although being realistic I am not sure that I was ever ready for it at all. I don't want to send off £585 plus a £114 levy per person if we end up not going.

Paul and his wife who are already there, were both positive and negative in their views, but I believe that they will stay and get on with things. I know I have a good life in the UK, but that is now, my children are growing fast and my eldest has just turned 10 yesterday and what with the shooting of the policewoman last week that yet again appears to be foreign nationals, I do fear for them.

I spoke to an SO today at work and he asked me what we were going to do and said what is a year out of your life, a year of experiencing something that you may never get the chance to do again! It made me think as I am sure that he thinks we are stark staring mad if we don't go, even though the wage is low. Anyway Tony, we have taken too long to decide and will know by this Monday if we will go or not as we have to complete the application at the very latest next week.

Hope you manage to sell the house soon if not already. It was lovely speaking to you via this thread and I wish you all the luck in NZ. But I'll tell you what - if we do get to Waikeria then I will definitely look you up for a drink.

Have a lovely Christmas and New Year

Love Suzanne x

So what did you decide to do Suzanne? Are you going? I've read this thread with great interest, although I won't get the opportunity to ever go, so please put me out of my misery :D

Hi MadSue

Just popped on to see if Tony Collins had visited this thread but to no avail. However, you had so here is the answer to your question.

After having read lots of negatives as well as positives on the British Ex-pats site we decided to delay our application (which was due in on 8th Dec) until after January. We have contacted both the immigration and the NZ Prison service equivalent who have given us a enxtension with regards to the job. My husband's colleague who went out to Auckland last May, wrote to say the job was getting better but they still didn't know whether they would stay or not and they have visited 7 times previously. The salary is very low but the cost of living still matches the UK's, although house prices are still lower.

My husband is considering going out to NZ to visit and see for himself. So still no decision but I will keep this tread posted. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too.

Hi,

I thought I would post some news about Tony Collins as I had a beer with him last night.

Firstly, he has bought a new laptop and is having problems getting his internet account set up. He said he hopes to resolve it this weekend.

Secondly, I think systems are all go for him and the move. I will not say too much as it is his business and he will want to tell you all himself - but I think things are moving and it won't be long before he is out there if everything goes according to plan.

Stoop :)

I posted this on the other forum, but have had no replies so was hoping that someone who lives in New Zealand may have some advice

We are going to New Zealand from the UK in Jan 2007, a hotel at the start and finish of the holiday and a motorhome in between. I was hoping someone could tell me if it's possible to buy an adaptor for our electrical items, hairdryer, razor etc. similar to the continental adaptor in Europe, or are our British electrical goods incompatible with the electricity supply there.

Thanks

i have just asked my sons partner who hails from n.zealand about your problem. she says youjust need to buy a socket adapter like we do when we go to spain with our electricals. you can buy them over here or in n.zealand'.

anything else feel free to ask. she has been living here for the last three years but goes home once a year.

Thanks for your help :D Is it a special New Zealand adaptor that I want and where would I get one from in the UK?

Also does your sons partner know whether the camp sites are very busy in Jan/Feb. Is it best to book ahead? :?:
