We don't have any children, so maybe I'm not the right person to be replying to this post, but we are just back from Tsilivi in Zakynthos, and thought that the resort was perfect for families. The beach is extremely safe with the waters being very shallow - it takes quite a walk before it starts to get deep. The resort is very flat so ideal for pushing a pram/buggy. The restaurants/bars are very child friendly, with play areas with swings ect available, so parents can enjoy a meal in peace  The Greek people are so friendly and accommodating, and they love kids.

I'm sure you will get plenty of responses to this topic, from parents/families who might have better advice.

Hi Ana,

We have booked for next year on 29th June for 2 weeks taking our 6 year old grandchild with us, cost for HB was £1088.00 (and that is leaving from Scotland which is always more expensive)

Like yourself I prefer s/catering but thought that was such a good price decided to give it a go. Can always eat out to break the monotony.

The reason I chose this hotel was I have not been able to find a bad review on any of the sites, everyone raves about it:
Ilios Hotel (15 mins. outside of Kos)]
They have a website and do s/catering as well.

Check out all the review sites, worth doing as we had a nightmare hol in Majorca this year.

Cheers,
Janet

Have a look at Parga...great for tavernas, beaches within walkable distance (or water taxi) Great views, lots of (olive)greenery Pcturesque. Very safe for Children and as someone said to me before I went (23 years ago....next year is visit 16) "you MAY find places as nice as Parga in Greece BUT you will never find anywhere nicer. check out http://www.parga.com for more info

Shame on you Kelvin. Though we were trying to keep the virtues of Parga quiet  Gail

As a couple of mid 60 year olds our favourite Island is Kefalonia, it;s not a cheap Island but very beautiful with a lot of very friendly Greek people, we have visited many Greek Island and find most Greeks lovely but kefalonia has something special. going with children should be great in 1992 we took two of our grandchildren there, we were taken all over the Island by Greek people, ate 7 nights in their homes the grandchildren were called by Greek names which they loved.
Hope wherever you go you enjoy it.

My daughter and s-i-l had their first ever holiday with my new grandson this year. They went to Acharavi on Corfu and had a great time. They got their own flights and booked accommodation with Travel with Friends at their Beachside Bungalows which are right on the beach in a fairly quiet location on the edge of the village, but close enough to walk to the bars and tavernas each evening. They also had free use of the pool at a nearby hotel, which came in handy because my grandson decided he didn't like waves! TWF arranged to pick them up and take them back to the airport, so no need to worry about finding taxis.

Georgiopoulis in NE Crete is ideal for young children, No kids clubs, but the beach is perfect for them + everything is centred round the village square which is really close to the beach, taxis, bars and restaurants etc. (our kids loved it) some of the apartments are so close to the beach that you can keep an eye on them playing from your apartment (the sea is also quite shallow) but make sure you fly to Chania and not Heraklion.
cheers,
paulo

san stefanos on corfu is ideal as the beach is shallow for a long way out and sandy, the resort is reasonably quiet but does have a few bars if you want a lively night (well not up to Sidari level though)
You have to be careful where you stay as some of the resort is up a very steep hill- good for the leg muscles. We stayed at the Romanza the first time we went with our 2yr old I developed muscles which I didnt know I had!!!!!!
