We have just returned from Paisley having stayed at the Premier Travel Inn.
If you do happen to stay in a Travel Inn, eat at the adjoining restaurants at your own risk, which are by the way a separate business from the Travel Inn empire but with the same owners (Whitbreads) my reasons for not eating there are as follows. On both evenings we decided to have dinner in the Beefeater restaurant,on both nights the food was without doubt garbage. They even know how to destroy a crisp !!! I have since found out from friends in the catering industry that Travel Inns do not have chefs. They use the Cook/Chill method. The food is prepared in a factory somewhere then is blast frozen and is then delivered to Travel Inn sites throughout the UK.It is then defrosted, put on a plate then heated, then delivered to your table. Then Joe public can eat a hard lump of Brazilian meat with chips that were cooked then re heated.Yugh !!!
I complained on the second evening and I received my £10.00 back for a main course.I have now e mailed Travel Inn to complain, they replied to say that the Adjoining restaurant, the Beefeater Inn at Paisley is run by Whitbread Restaurants, nothing to do with Travel Inn,they have passed on my comments. So far I have not had a reply.
Although the Travel Inn was OK for sleeping over,I have used them for years.I have since been told that we can get very good deals from the better Hotels.I doubt if I could eat in a Whitbread restaurant again. And by the way if you drink at the bar, there are plenty of lagers, some cokca cola,
bottled water or fruit juice or perhaps red wine.Dont ask for anything different,as they aint got it !!!
GDE
I think the comments are a little harsh. I have found a wide range of wines - red white and rose - spirits, soft drinks ( If I'm driving I'm on J2O which they always have) as well as more than just lagers for beer drinkers. Many of the Scottish restaurants/bars (like the one at Fort Kinnaird outside Edinburgh) have a spectacular range of single malt whiskies.
I'm dubious about the cook/chill method statement; in Beefeaters particularly I go for steak, and find the cook/chill claim a little difficult to accept. I have always thought that they grill the steak there and then - and in one or two Beefeaters ( theres one down near Epsom for a start) you can watch them grilling the steak.
For the money the Premier Travel Inn rooms represent reasonable value; but, for me the big point is that they are consistent - I know exactly what I'll find when I open the door ( I have had some horror stories in other places when trying to vary the routine.)
The drinks are the same as you would find elsewhere with a large selection of different lagers / beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks etc.
If you are staying at a Premier Travel Inn you always know what standard of room you are going to get when you arrive and at what price, more than can be said for some hotels.
