If your Sahara trip mentions "Matmata" this is the troglodyte dwellings which they used for Luke Skywalkers family home in the first film.

I know with Mytravel you can do a tour of scenes from Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the English Patient. I think it was a 3 day trip and cost around about £125.

And if you're a Monty Python fan then the Rabat in Monistir is a 'must see' - it stood in for Nazareth and Jerusalem in The Life of Brian.

The hotel Sidi Driss in Matmata was used for the canteena scenes in the first star wars film. If you do the Sahara Explorer trip t is unlikley that you will see the actual places used.
'The life of brian' scene at the end on the crosses was also shot in Matmata

I believe that some other Star Wars scenes were shot around Tozeur, though I am not a star Wars buff so couldn't swear to that

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help.

Never been to Tunisia and we're thinking of booking up this summer.

Being truthful Star Wars is the only reason that I want to goto Tunisia, I'd love to see the Set and I believe the hotel (another SW set) in Matmata.

What I really want to know is which resort is the easiest access to this excursion, estimated prices and how long do they usually run.

Cheers for any help.

*Merged to existing posts although a little dated may help Briar

I haven't been to the actual places, but after googling and seeing some images, the Hotel Sidi Driss is actually where the scenes of Lukes home were filmed, not the Cantina bar scenes.

Also, the interior shots (below ground) are filmed in a different place to the exterior (ground level) shots, where Luke looks out to the twin suns.

All explained here...

This site details exactly where the Star Wars locations are in Tunisia...

I am a Star Wars fan, and would love to go on the trip to see the site(s), but we have a 3 year old, so it just isn't feasible, and I wouldn't feel happy leaving my wife and son alone for 2-3 days in the resort (PeK).

we went on the 2 day Sahara trip last year - we were staying in PEk. This trip included the star wars sites, as well as other places, such as a coluseum place call ed El something where they filmed Gladiator. It was a wonderful trip which ended up with a camel ride in the Sahara as the sun was setting. But beware you do spend a hell of a lot of time on the bus! cost around £70/£80 I think, which included some meals and an overnight stay....

We stayed for 5 nights in Tozeur (DIY holiday) and took a jeep safari to omg jemel, where we saw the original set for star wars. You need to take an arranged tour here, it's quite a bit off the beaten trap. 4 hour jeep safari for 3 of us cost 105 TD.

Will try and post some photos.
