I think it was called "Champs"...it's a shop selling fitness equipment & fishing gear (a strange combination!). Not sure about wire traces but they certainly had a large range of lures priced at 300 - 400 rs. They are obviously designed to fish at different depths so avoid deep diving patterns...2 to 5 foot is about right for shallow work & 10 foot for deeper water. As far as the wire traces are concerned it's probably safer to buy some here....the sort of thing that puddle fishers use for pike lures.

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to say thanks for the advice re flights. I will probably look to book in early summer....dont think I've got the bottle to do a last minute jobbie....I will need 10 seats!! Should I budget on about £400 or am I being optimistic?

well just got back from goa missing it like mad . did some fishing out there caught not a thing we went with the lad from dona paula called tony nice guy but i think next time i go ill take my own tackle seemed a little dated but nice day out 
i went fishing with a guy called dean ex fireman and ken from the peacock pub had a great day i caught a grouper and a swedish lad got a nice snapper and a grouper we also missed a few,we fished for abot 5 hours or so cost was 1500 rps including soft drinks and water +whiskey and vodka also dean made us a vcd of it to take home
ended up not taking my tackle as bags were to heavy but will be doing next time

Can anyone tell me what else I should bring with me if I want to go fishing.
I have a spinning rod but not sure what other tackle I should bring?
I usually use floats. Which is best around the Calangute area? Float or ground fishing?
Any info would be helpful. By the way I am a beginner at fishing.

really your best with some ready rigs for ledgering patanoster is a prefered method by most beachcasters i think but you can use a normal ledger set up. in certain places you may be able to do some spinning (rocks and such)if your really unsure just get a helicopter ready rig used for carp fishing and some leads and hooklengths and you will be ok

You don't have to have the wire trace but those fish have got teeth, big ones. The lower swivel often comes with the spoon. ESP or Fox do some good pre-made wire traces with the top swivel already fixed so all you need to do is clip the bait on one end and attach the other end to your line - they cost about £ 1.50 each
Otherwise as Going said think of a helicopter or paternoster rig (search on google if you're not sure how to tie them) or Korda do a good helicopter rig kit. A baitrunner reel would be handy for this set up, you don't want to loose your rod after all.
Take your floats though as well, there's lots of river about

I had a reply from a fishing forum i use about a bloke who does sea fishing trips in Maharashtra, he picks you up, you stay in a lodge do a couple of boat trips and he takes you back to where your staying.

i have tried to find out about mahseer as well and hit a brick wall ! i have done some trolling but thats about all there is for sea fishing apart from beach and rocks think i might phone tight lines on friday see if they can give any advice

Are there Mahseers in the Southern rivers ? when i was in Manali a few years back in October I was told that it was the season for them then but it was absolutely freezing so i never bothered. I always thought that they were in the Rivers coming off the glaciers up in the North, I am however not always correct 
I think the Great Mahseers are up North.
You can fish for Mahseers in Southern waters but strictly speaking they are not Great Mahseers because they just don't get big enough.

hi everyon, my partner and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday where i spent a lot of time fishing from coco beach ashvem and calangute, whilst i had reasonable success with the local catfish population i couldn't hook into anything else, i tried bottom fishing with prawns and sardines aswell as lure fishing with rapalas. Whilst it was fun i am keen to try and hook into something different (except the huge crab that nearly had my toe off!! lol). I would be grateful to hear of any tips or advice or locations from any more succesfull fisherman so i am prepared for next time. Thanks in advance.
you could always just catch catfish from the shore all day like i did for a week lol!

i went into panjim and bought a bog standard telescopic road and light gear and small hooks. used a few rapalas but didnt do anything on them! sardine and prawns. think you could catch catfish just about anywhere, think doggies back home!
