If you are looking to go to the Algarve next year i would advise you to avoid Direct Holidays. We travelled with them last year and although had booked 9 months in advance having chosen the accomodation we wanted on arrival at Faro airport without any warning they decided to send us somewhere else. We dident like where we were placed so on return i decided to complain to them and try to get compensation. there complaints proceedure states they will reply in full within 35 days but we dident get a response untill after 70 days and then they just offered me 10% back as a good will gesture. I am now seeking the rest of the compensation through an independant arbritrator.

I'd been interested to know the outcome of the arbitration. I'd also be interested to know why you went down that route rather than straight legal action via a solicitor.
As you know there's been much reported (mainly bad to terrible) here on h.t. about Direct Holidays. I'm still awaiting a response from them to my request to my question about response timescales. I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Can you believe this in October 1/2 term?? Nor could we, so we only had our deposits returned and booked with BA.
