Check out the local tour operators for an idea of trips etc. available. The trip over to Bodrum is easy to book locally, and if memory serves me correctly is around €30 per head. A cheaper alternative is to go to Kos town and book direct from one of the tour companies down by the harbour. If you are hiring a car this would be a better way as you could be in town for an early ferry. Not to sure if the local bus gets in to Kos for the early boats. Ditto for the Rhodes trip. Done a day trip to Rhodes in 2003 by hydrofoil booked from a compny in Kefalos and it cost €45 return. Have a look at http://www.asklipiostours.com for some ideas.
Andy.
Thanks for your advice Andy. I think we'll hire a car for about 4 days or so and work the trips to Bodrum and Rhodes around that. Unfortunately the web site you suggested doesn't exist anymore, but there's bound to be some on the net similar. Rick
Have a look at http://www.kefalos.com they have a map of the Kamari resort listing some of the accomodation, tavernas and bars etc. which is worth a look.
Also an idea of what is available in the way of car hire.
Andy.
Thanks a lot Andy, much appreciated, Rick.
We went to Kefalos as the 2nd week in a 2 centre holiday with Kalymnos in Sept/Oct 2004. My report is about half way down this page - the second half concerning Kos. We found car hire very cheap and driving about no problem. We also enjoyed the boat trip to the volcanic island of Nissyros:
Ive seen Jacks and it looks good, in a good position for everything really and a nice pool.
Spending the day getting lost in the backstreets of Kos town makes for a lovely day out, for something to eat avoid the overpriced places on the front of Kos Harbour and find somewhere else, as for eating in Kefalos, Sebastians is one of the best, and there is a place along the front with a big grill in the window, service in there is lovely,
nothing is too Greek in my opinion, plenty of English food, if your looking for some tradition take a walk to other palces, somewhere quiet and maybe with locals sitting there and youll get that too.
Want to know about trips theres loads of review places on the web think one is called http://www.justkos.co.uk
Thanks Sallybear and MariaH for taking the trouble to reply so quickly. Thanks for the write-up and the websites, lots of useful info, Rick.
