Well we are finally off to PRDO next week - I cannot wait! Don't like the look of some of weather forecast mind but hey ho - two weeks away from work!

Anyway what does the CUC equate to in pounds? I know there is a link under the currency info slot but nothing comes up for Cuba. Just wanted to know roughly how much is a tenner? So I apologise now for repeating!

its just so I can gte a better idea for tipping and how much trips cost!

Have just purchased my Jamaican dollars and US$ travellers cheques via http://www.1stholidaystore.co.uk which then directs you to http://www.onlinefx.co.uk.

HSBC online gave a rate of 98.78 Jamaican dollars to the pound whilst onlinefx gave 107.16 ( 8.5% better ) and as I went via 1stholidaystore I got free fully insured next day delivery via Royal Mail Special Delivery ( £4.95 extra if you go to onlinefx directly ).

I ordered them mid-morning yesterday and they were delivered to my door this morning at 8.30am - and all from the comfort of my own home.

I reckon this is a brilliant deal - does anyone know of a better option for future reference ?

Can you use a Visa Delta card (ie current acount) in Varadero, and could you advise if you can use a Halifax credit card, is it better to take travellers cheques or sterling or pesos. Any help would be be gratefully appreciated, we are staying at Hotel Paradisus Varadero.

Cash wise, definitely take sterling. Not sure how many banks you will find in Varadero, I know in Guardalavaca they were very thin on the ground though, we just took cash and kept it in the safe in the room. There is a thread at the top of the page that gives loads of info on currency and stuff, you might find out about banks in there

I'm off to Barbados for the first time next month - staying in St Lawrence Gap. Please can anyone advise the best method of taking money. Is it best to take travellers cheques or are there plenty of ATMs which accept UK cards?

Does anyone have experience of trying to use a switch debit card in Mexico. I had intended to just take a little cash and use ATM's but I read on a Mexico site today that switch cards aren't widely accepted either in stores or at ATM's. Any information would be appreciated

Any cards that are NOT issued by a bank with a USA connection. It is best to check directly with the card issuer

When we order our US dollars I would like at least 100 one dollar notes. Usually you only get big notes. Is there anywhere, that will provide this service, I like to have lots of small notes for tipping.

Of all the last minute things I need to do before leaving home for Cuba this Friday I didn't think that getting travellers cheques would be one of them! Went to the bank this lunchtime, drew out the cash, nipped over the road to Thomas Cook to buy the travellers cheques to discover that they've sold their travellers cheques business to guess who? American Express!! Even the TC staff member who is herself going to Cuba this summer admitted that she hadn't sorted out a solution to this problem.

Every bank and travel agent with a currency exchange that I went into said the same 'We only do Amercian Express cheques - if you're going to Cuba you'll need to go to Thomas Cook'. Nationwide do non-American Express cheues but you have to be an account holder and there's no way that they can get one opened for me by Friday! Any solutions guys?

Sorted! The friend I'll be staying with overnight near Gatwick has found out that Barclays issue Visa TCs which they assure her will be acceptable in Cuba. So she's getting some for me - branches of Barclays being thin on the ground in Scotland! - and I'll draw cash from the ATM at Gatwick to avoid the Scottish banknote problem.

Not sorted after all! turns out that you have to be an account holder at Barclays too and neither of us are. My friend is not best pleased because this was never mentioned to her when she phoned them! So it looks as if there's no alternative to getting the money belt out of storage after all.
