Hi
We are thinking of going to New York for New Year but not sure where to stay. We would like to stay in or around Time Square. Does anyone no if there are any restrictions getting in or out of hotels that are in Time Square during the build up to midnight.
Karen
We were in New York this New Year, or should I say 2005. We stayed in the Hotel Metro (report in hotel section) which is in Mid Manhatten and Times Square was just a short walk away. Although we did'nt go to Times Square you can't help getting caught up in all the celebrations. They were putting up barriers and erecting the stage areas, so each times we walked through we saw it taking shape. They start to close off the roads about 3pm on new years eve to all traffic, but you can walk around, although once you have found a spot you cannot leave, well if you do you cannot return. You are not allowed to take large bags etc and the security is extremely high, as you can imagine. On News Years day we went for a walk and the whole place had been completly cleaned, you would never have known what had happened there the previous night, except when the wind blew and ticker tape came down from the roofs. New York is the most fantastic place, I can't wait to go back. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions, Lorraine

We'll also be in New York for New Year's Eve! After lots of research, we've decided to have a meal close to Central Park (we've booked to go to Carmine's - INVALID URL and then we'll walk over to Central Park just before midnight to watch the fireworks. It's supposed to be a lot more civilised than spending hours squashed into Times Square!
Enjoy, U2fan
We ordered the Garlic bread starter - could have fed 10 !
Meatballs as a main course between 2, it could have fed 5000 !!
[was okay, but wouldnt have again]
Slice of Tiramisu for desert - could have fed 10 again !!
Good place though!
Thanks Northern - your post made me laugh out loud! I have heard that the portions are massive.
Can anyone recommend something to do oe somewhere to go on New YearsEve instead of the usual Times Square festivities. Maybe a restaurant/bar close to broadway. Has anyone experience of the Whiskey bar on Times Square
