Hello janna,

Links for the hotel :- http://www.pergolahotel.com.mt. I know where this hotel is and it looks to me to be a nice hotel.
How long are you there for, when are you going and will you be hiring a car?
The hotel facilities look fine and there are half a dozen very good restaurants nearby.
There is also a nearby bus stop which will take you to Mellieha beach, Buggiba/St Pauls/Qawra, Sliema and Valetta.
The ferry port to Gozo is also a short bus ride away and well worth a visit.

We are there for a week so unfortunately not that long. :? We are going at the end of May and I don't think we'll be hiring a car because the traffic is on the left side of the road and not familiar to us (coming from Finland). Some of the restaurants that I have found surfing the net are The Arches, L'Amigo, Il-Mithra, Reflections, La Salita, Punta Prema, Zefirinos and Alanta Boy. Any comments on these or would you like to mention some of your own favourites? :)
I've also read about this Popeye Village. Has anyone been there and did you like the place? Suitable for a 3-year-old? How about Marfa Ridge, Ramla Bay or Mdina? What's in these places to see? Thanks again!

Our friends and their 2 children went there 2 years ago and they all really liked it and said they wouldn't hesitate in going back.

I am sure they went to the resort as part of their timeshare membership, so there must be timeshare at the hotel as well and this often increases the standard of facilites avaliable.

I will try and find out some more details of the hotel for you from our friends.

Popeye village would be a good place to take your 3 year old, you can take the bus number 441 from Mellieha directly to Popeye village.

If you like beaches the resort of Mellieha has a very nice sandy beach or you can go to Golden Bay

A trip to Valleta is a must, bus routes 44 & 50.

Although you would be driving 'on the wrong side' of the road in Malta I would recommend that if possible you hire a car, the wouldd let you seeso much more of this lovely island and you would also be able to go and explore the island Gozo. Driving is not hard in Malta and car hire can be cheap.

Hi Janna,
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend in November 2005. It is a very nice hotel with a lovely view at the top of Mellieha hill. As Kiltman-Graham said it is part timeshare so is of a very good standard. Our room and all the public areas were very clean and nicely furnished. In our room we had a small fridge, a kettle, there was satalite TV, an in house movie channel, a hotel information channel, you could also hire a Playstation2 and DVDs if you wanted. There were two outdoor swimming pools each with a small children's pool, and one indoor pool. There is a games room and a nice playroom for younger chidren with soft flooring, a small slide, a playhouse and other toys. They also have a laundry for guests use in case you need to wash your clothes while you are on holiday, handy if you have a 3 year old. If you do decide to hire a car, parking is easy because they have an underground car park for guests. The bus stop is only 5 minutes walk away as are quite a few restaurants and shops. You can also use the facilities at the Solana hotel, 5 minutes walk away, as they have the same owners. http://www.solanahotel.com/
The food was quite good, self service so you could take as you wish, not a vast choice of main courses, but plenty of desserts. We were only there for a weekend but if you stayed longer it would be best to visit other restaurants for a bit more variety. The restaurants I like the best in Mellieha are La Salita, The Arches (a bit expensive though :? ) Il- Mithna and Reflections.

Mellieha has a lot of hills, so bring some comfortable shoes and you might consider bringing a pushchair for your 3 year old because the hills could be tiring for little legs.

Thank you very much Kiltman-Graham and ingliza for your good advice. :) I'm already looking forward to our holiday! I was wondering about that Gozo island, is there a good way to see the island without our own car and is it worth the trip?

I also found out that there is a "Mediterraneo Marine Park" in Malta. Has anyone visited it or knows where it is? What about the Blue Lagoons?

Yes you can see Gozo without a car. If you go to the main street in Mellieha, just a few minutes walk from the Pergola, there are some shops that offer various Malta and Gozo tours.
You can reach the Marine Park by the 645 bus caught from the bus stop near your hotel http://www.atp.com.mt/direct_service.html this is the bus routes link the Marine Park is exactly next door tto the Splash and Fun Park. When I visited the Marine Park in August 2005 it was Lm6 and well worth it, I am sure you will enjoy it.
If you fancy going to the Blue Lagoon, the quickest and cheapest way would be for you to take a short bus ride up to Cirkewwa and catch the ferry boat over. There are various companies that have trips but you would probally need to travel back down to Bugibba or Sliema to catch them.
