we are going to a wedding at the marriot but they don't have family rooms.does anyone know of a hotel or inn near here.

Could try premier travelinn which has quite a few hotels in that area.
http://www.premiertravelinn.com they bill you by rooms required not by person so you wont get hit with under occupancy rates.

The Innkeepers Lodge is just across the road from the Gosforth Park Marriott.
