Now since they finally offer direct flights to Taba, I'm willing to go there. But should I opt for the Hyatt Regency or the Marriott in Taba Heights? Beach access is not a big issue for us, we prefer pools - which one has the nicer (possibly landscaped) pools (with grottoes, waterfalls and stuff)? Which one has the nicer rooms (is the cheapest room category enough or should I opt for Sea Front rooms?) and which one offers the better dining options (we like all kinds of cuisine)? Marriott is also offered with All-Inclusive but there are no details on how all inclusive works at that hotel (are all restaurants open to all-inc guests? what kinds of drinks are included?)... Also how is breakfast at these properties (do they make waffles or pancakes and do both offer made to order eggs? Are they far away from each other?
Also, I have been to the Sharm Hyatt numerous times and think it is a terrific hotel, bearing this in mind which one is my first choice?
And final question: In late february, is it hot enough in Taba to stay at the pools, do sunbathing?
Thx in advance for your very much appreciated help!
We are going to the Hyatt in May, looked into all the hotels and they Hyatt as far as we could see is the best, and looks the nicest. A friend of mine has just returned from a week there and she said it is out of this world and the best of Taba hotels. We have booked with Thomsons. I hav e researched lots of websites etc before we booked it and we think we have made the best choice. Good luck with whichever one your choose.
No one else with information regarding all-inclusive at the Marriott?
Just to keep you posted: I booked the Hyatt and they already upgraded me to a Sea-Front room. Is there any possibility at Taba airport to buy cigarettes? Do they carry all brands?
I don't smoke so can only quote other people - but those in the know reckoned even the prices in the hotel shops are good compared to back home...
Who did you book with, did you get a good deal?
It is hot enough to sunbathe (20 to 25 degrees with a cooling breeze), but I appreciated the heated pools!
The Hyatt has plenty of lovely, comfy sunbeds around several pools, the lap pool and sculptured pool are heated, as is the large jacuzzi, but the split level pool is not heated and so no one in it!! The hyatt also has lovely rooms, big and nicely furnished, and a big balconey. It also has extensive plantings with beautiful plants and flowers which make a big difference.
Get a gold card for a better room, and free drinks.
I did not find the Hyatt brilliant for lunch food, and hubbie had a much better burger at the Mariott than the Hyatt. The marriott rooms didn't look as good from the outside, and the place generally didn't look quite as impressive. Still good though. It did have a very nice big sculptured pool, with shady swim up bar, and cave structures over parts of the swimming pool. However, its probably not warm enough at the moment to appreciate a shaded swimming pool!
I would go back to the Hyatt rather than Mariott, unless I was going at the height of summer when you would appreciate the shaded swimming pool.
You can always go between them by the little bus, stay at the Hyatt and eat lunch at the Mariott!
Ultimately, both are very good quality, and it is probably very fair to say that where one excels in certain areas, the other excels in others. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other!!
edited to add:
Hyatt did waffles and eggs to order.
Dinner was reasonable but not fantastic - salad (with some interesting extras every day!), 2 soups, burger/hotdog/pizza and chips, meat dishes (stews and stuff, sorry not much info - I'm veggie!), veggies and potatoes. Lots of different nationalities so some strange variety!
They are a few minutes away by the waterworld bus, you could walk it if you wanted.
Hope that helps!
Well, as I am from Luxembourg, I did not book using a UK tour operator but I booked through Thomas Cook Belgium out of Brussels and got a week at the Hyatt (halfboard) for 700€ or about 460£. Don't know it this is a good deal or not but I thought it was OK. As far as the Hyatt is concerned.. I'm a bit distracted by this split-level pool... Which one is that? I always read about the lap pool and the sculptured pool (I think both of these can always be seen on pictures) as well as the Lagoon (which houses the lagoon rooms)... but what is the split level pool like? Where is it located? Concerning the Marriott: On its websites pictures it always looks like if their pool would flow through almost the entire hotel (like a lazy river pool). Is this the case? Did you know that you can use restaurants at other hotels when you book half board? You only need to go to the reception and let them give you a voucher. If so, in which hotel do they have an Asian restaurant?
