Yes it is hard to walk if you go a fair way into the gorge!

It is the most beautiful and cool place and the restaurants built on boards over the gushing river below are expensive but divine. A fabulous way to eat.

The gorge is not that wide with very high walls and thus it is wet and it is slippy. Take a decent pair of non-slip trainers and you will not go far wrong. I've been in June when the river has been very high due to the snow melt from the mountains. After a about 15 minutes walk we were up to our waists in freezing cold water but what fun!

Other trips from Olu Deniz: Patara - fabulous beach, quite a wild sea with crashing breakers and roman ruins on the beach. Kalkan - lovely smallish resort, now very trendy. Dayan - river, ruins and a wonderful beach where the turtles nest. If you have the time 2 day trip to Ephesus and Pammukule - massive roman amphitheatre and city ruins, enormous, blows your mind away for sheer scale and in June not too hot to visit and then the white "cotton" rising out of the mountain with thermal pools cascading down the hills. Kaya Koy - just up the road past Hisaronu, deserted village, best visited late afternoon in order to be able to watch how the whole village changes colour as the sun goes down. Plus loads of boat trips!

we went to the Gorge and it is beautiful - but we did wuss out of the walk through the water - it was august but the water so cold we lost feeling in our feet and legs in minutes! the platforms on the river to eat and drink are lovely.
Agree with magster you should go up to kaya koy , evenings are best , then find somewhere to eat there. we loved Cin Bal

previous reports are maybe a bit frightening.
we went in september. you can hire non slip rubber slippers to wear at the entrance.
the water is very cold but we only had to walk in it for about 20 yds, wife is 5-2" and water came up to her thighs.
walking further up is a mix of shingle , rocks and sandy mud with a small amount of water in a stream.a bit of scrambling is necessary, but nothing that any able bodied person would struggle with.
I suppose the hight of the water depends on the melt off of the snow and rains etc.
It is narrow and high but not claustrophobic, after about a kilometre(or a bit less) it did become much more difficult and we were advised by tour guide that we went on at own risk.
It really is nothing to worry about and is a lovely bit of coolness after the heat everywhere.
I agree with the comments about the restaurant platforms in the river where you can also feed the ducks (if they are still there)
incidentally, you said walk through the gorge, you actually walk up it and then come back out the same way---cold water twice!

Yes my daughter and her friend stayed here last year, while we were at the White Hotel down the road. It was very good value for money. The rooms were freshly decorated and furnished and the maid even tidyed their room for them (Probabaly so she could sweep the floor). It was very near the beach and had a nice pool and pool bar. Nice low key place.

Only draw back was the lecherous bar man. He was a not a good avert for Turkish men I am afraid. Thought he was gods gift plus a nasty streak!

Ignor him(or hopefully he's been chucked out) and you have agreat time!

It starts out quite easy, but the further up you go the more tricky it gets. I went a long way up!

Saklikent is a wonderful experience - but I'm sure they have hundreds of minor injuries every year.

The main problem is that the colour of the water - it's normally a milky grey/white - makes it impossible to see the bottom.

Most of the surface is rocky and extremely uneven. Even wearing the rubber shoes it's very difficult to judge where you're walking.

Go and have fun. It's never stopped me, but the potential for twisted or even broken ankles etc. can't be ignored.
