Villefranche, Ajaccio and Valetta definately - all very pretty to wander around.

If you search around the site and reviews you should be able to pick up hints about the other ports - For some, it depends how adventurous you are - eg Civitaveccia, which involves a train ride to get to Rome if youDIY.

Hi Debbie

Last year we took the shuttle bus into Marseilles and followed a marked walk - this was excellent - Cittiavecchia - you can take the shuttle bus into town and walk along the seafront or take the train from the station to Rome - we didn't do this as we had been to Rome for 4 days in the January - Naples - we walked to the train station and took the train to Pompeii - the information at the port told us of a bus to take us to the station but we couldn't find it on the bus stops! the walk to the station was a bit daunting early morning, but coming back in the afternoon we found our way back without going into the back streets. The train is an inner line, sorry but I cannot remember the correct name - the train carries on to Sorrento, the Pompeii trip was an easy trip to do under your own steam apart from the fact that the train was full to the limits on the way down, so much so that we nearly missed the place to get off. Coming back we didn't have any problems. Most of the ports had an information booth where you could get the information that you needed.

thanks for all the replies. I am not very adventurous but some seem easy enough. I will probably take the ship tour for Rome

Hi Debbie - what I meant was that Villefranche Ajaccio and Valletta are all easy. They are all small and easy to walk round on foot. There is a little road train just opposite the port which takes you round Ajaccio. Valetta you have to make your way uphill to get to the centre, but there may even be a tourist road train there, I can't remember. Villefranche has a lovely quayside to wander along and also some very pretty little streets just behind the port. It is also very easy to get the train along to Monaco, one of our favourite places to visit. Monaco is a little more difficult to navigate around because its on 3 levels, the port, the casino area then up to the palace.

Just ask if you've any other questions.

Gill, Does the shuttle bus take you as far as the town/cities of Villefranche, Ajaccio and valletta.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. It is very helpful.
We are going to take the ships tour of Rome and sorrento

You don't need the shuttle bus for any of these 3 ports of call as they are all within walking distance of the port

Gill

ps Villefranche and Ajaccio are tender ports.
