Hi,
After abandoning my plans to visit Ibiza again this summer me and my mate have decided to try Gran Canaria instead. However, I have never been to this island before, although i've been to Tenerife countless times and Lanzarote once.
Therefore, for 2 lads in their 20's who want to have a week of sunshine, half decent nightlife and with lots going on, which resort is best suited for us? Is there much to do on the Island, as I'm sick to death of Tenerife now.
I'm also going to be going self catering, so if anyone can suggest some decent places to stay that would be great also.
Finally, after having an outstanding holiday last year in Ibiza which I booked with Sunset Holidays I'm tempted to stick with Sunset again when booking this holiday. Is this wise, or is it just worth looking for what looks like the best deal going. I want somewhere relatively cheap but half decent.
Any advice or first hand experiences would be great.
Cheers
Mark
well if you fancy Gran Canaria this year you will be best at Playa del Ingles, more going on there, like Tenerife.
Hope you enjoy it there, we also like Tenerife but went to Puerto Rico last year and Playa, the latter has more going on and night life.
hope that helps

hi mark,if you fancy getting a good nights sleep stay in maspalomas and get a cab into playa at night it only costs a couple of euros or you can walk it's only 20 mins,if you want to stick with sunset try bungalows kiwi very basic but clean and joe the barman is a gem.

Playa del Ingles is probably best for two young lads but don't write off Puerto Rico altogether. The main Commercial Centre in PR is great at night with loads of young lads and lasses about. Also jet skis, speed boats, banana boats, diving etc during the day at the beaches.
We've travelled with Thomson, Thomas Cook and My Travel and always had a great holiday so I would definately recommend giving GC a try.

I worked in Playa last summer and the place was jumpin! Lots of different centres to work your way around, English, Irish, Kasbah and Yumbo are the main ones. Kasbah is the busiest with the likes of good old linekers and pacha etc. Ive never been to Ibiza, but if you're comparing I think you may be disappointed as I cant imagine it being anywhere near as busy. You might of heard that the Yumbo is the gay capital of europe, but if thats not your thing then dont let that put you off cos you can avoid it and you wouldnt know it was there!
Also, accommodation wise, there's lots of cheap n cheerful places to stay and dont stick with sunset, go for the best deal. There's quite a few bungalow complexes which are close to the Kasbah and are ok and Los salmones and Los faluas are pretty basic but are really busy with like minded people which makes a great atmosphere!
I visited P.Rico a few times aswell and definitely prefer Playa, especially if you want varied nightlife.

Thanks for the replies. Just got some brochures today and Thomson/TUI are looking quite good. Think i'll probably choose to stay in Playa Del Ingles or Maspalomas. As long as there's some bars and stuff to do I am happy, I don't for one minute expect it to be like Ibiza, fancied something a little cheaper and more chilled out this year!
