I wouldn't go to Milan - I've been there twice, it's quite an industrial city with virtually nothing to see, it's ok for shopping but that's about it.
Rome is a thousand times better and I would definitely recommend Rome.

- does anyone know of any hotels that would be central for this concert and also handy for shopping, drinking, eating etc?
Thanks

We have booked our return flights to Nice from Milan Malpensa. We understand that it takes approx 5 hours by train to get to Milan from Nice. However, having never been to Milan before I would be grateful if anyone could recommend where to stay, visit etc. We could also stop on the way over night if there is a recommendation to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have now discovered that there is a trade fair on in Milan and that it is virtually impossible to book into a hotel. The only option I can find is 460 euros per night.
Am anxious now as I'm leaving in the morning.
Anyone know of an area just outstide of Milan where I could try and travel in????
Desperate last plea.

Had a short break in Milan/Turin last month.
Bought day ticket for the underground and used it to get around.
Milan is an industrial city but we enjoyed it very much.
Turin is much nicer for touring. Went by tourist, hop on/off bus. Lovely city. Visited the Church which has the Turin Shroud.
Bergamo Old Town is well worth a visit. Went by Funiculare Railway to the top of the old town...really nice, lovely views. Old Castle at the top of hill.
Nice shops and restaurants which are much cheaper than Milan.
People nice and friendly.
Spent two days in Piedmont area. Took train from Milan there. The trains are much cheaper than ours and much cleaner!
I look forward to taking advantage of the cheap flights to Italy as often as I can...Lovely Country

We're planning to go to Milan in August, after alot of back and forth between Madrid, Rome and Milan.
Does anyone have any tips and advice on where to stay and are there any good bars, clubs and restaurants? Or is there anyone thats stayed in Milan that can let me know of their experience and opinion of Milan?
Any replies are appreciated.
