Can anyone explain why I note posts on this and other web sites complaining of rooms that are not like the Ritz?? Ours is to wash and sleep in were on holiday as long as it is clean and beds are clean what more do some people want

I would say 'value for money' myself. Apart from your home and your car, your family holiday is probably the third most expensive purchase you make annually and for that one would expect just a little more than a room that provides nothing more than a bed and a wash basin.

I am a single traveller and I am already penalised with extra surcharges for a basic room devoid of the facilities available in twin/double/family rooms. Whilst I would not expect such luxuries as provided by such establishments as 'The Ritz', I would expect a few 'home comforts'. And most hotel rooms do provide this in the form of basic furniture, a chair, a tv, a fridge etc etc. Some rooms offer more than this, such as hopitality trays, hair dryers, mini bars and irons.

At the very least I would expect to find all the facilities that the Hotel advertises are available. If these are not present on arrival then I think we are well within our rights to complain about it. Certainly, if the room is dirty and the sheets are not changed then that is also concern for complaint.

Just my own humble opinion of course.

Maybe they've had a cheap holiday and were surprised how good the accomodation was, then the next year paid a lot more money and got a lesser accomodation!

I agree that the accomodation doesn't matter as much as the holiday itself but I also think if people wan't to give their opinions on a hotel room then they have every right to do so! Especially on a site like this!

No not at all. I totally agree. And I am 'chilled'. I was merely stating my own opinion in answer to the author of this posts' question. It was simply meant to be my opinion and I appreciate its not that of others.

Everyone has their own opinions on what they expect from hotel or apartment accomodation, and whilst I appreciate we do not spend all our time on holiday in our rooms, I can't agree that the quality etc of the accomodation is not as important as the holiday itself. To me, it is very important. Especially when I have very little option but to pay single room supplements as an extra.

Precisely. That is the general idea of this site is it not? For example, the Hotel reviews forum. HT members post favourable and unfavourable reports about the same hotel, and it is up to the reader to form their own judgment. The reviews are meant to be unbiased opinions based upon the experience of the author of that review/post.

Oh, right. I must admit I was rather surprised when I thought I was being told to chill out for merely puting forward my own opinion in answer to the original posters question. I'm still chilled though
