Well lez if you going for 28 days as written above and visiting a different one every day for lunch, wont that be 28 :shrug ooops! sorry it says "attempt" so i guess 25, i'd say you'll find at least one you'll want to return back to for the excellent food and friendly service. if i'm wrong i'll donate a sum of money to CWT Dont know if i'm allowed to say how much & i dont want to upset Fiona as its the weekend, so i'll PM you.

We tend to go to Bob Marley shack on Candolim Beach, great food, great staff but not unique.

The beach is quite deep with golden sand but can get big waves so maybe not the best for swimming. You get a few fishermen around the River Princess, not that they are a problem particularly.

If you sit back from the shore line you can avoid most of the hawkers but there aren't that many if you stay at the Sinquierim end of the beach in any case.

Where Bob Marley shack is you can drive right down to the beach and the Elephant Shop and all that is around there is just up the road, which suits me quite well as I have trouble sitting still on a beach for any length of time.

We are visiting Candolim for the first time in November, We usually stay at the marinha dourada.
We have booked the phoenix park, is this in quite a central part of candolim? There is also some nice restaurants we have still to try in Candolim so it will be quite convenient staying there. It says the hotel is about a 10/15 minute walk to the main road?
Plus we can try some different beach shacks. ive heard a few names being banded about in the forum, bobby's Ganesh and Claudinas shack to name but a few.

Gemma33, my wife and myself went to Candolim in January this year, we had a whale of a time. Stayed at the Dona Alcina, which is not as bad as some reports would have you think, the staff there do their very best with what they've got to work with.

The resort itself has loads of different restaurants and bars, there is something for everyone. The beach is great, as are the shacks, the sellers were a bit of a pest some days, but the shacks are now hiring security guys to keep the sellers on the move.

We had such a good time, we have booked another holiday at Dona Alcina for January 2007, and 3 other people are going with us this time. Hope you have as good a time as we did.

Been to Goa loads of times but last November was my first time staying in Candolim. Ended up most times in the Calamari shack - it was very clean, free beds, separate mens and womens WCs (plumbed and flushing!), shower, and handwash. Food was good and service OK - not over friendly but that suited us because we just wanted to crash out. It's on Dando Beach, down the road from the Santana Hotel - which is on the small road opposite Flambe on the main road towards the Taj Hotel..
Tried Claudina's and that was good too but it was quieter towards The Calamari.

Eating out highlights are Mermaid and After 7 on Chapel Lane.

The beach is great but the River Princess causes sand to shift around and there is a strong undertow at times.

:P Had 2 brilliant weeks this year.many of the shacks were excellent value, particularly liked Monicas. For a good meal and wonderful" Blues" music, get along to The Stone House on the main road near the Kingfisher house..best collection of blues I've ever seen, and some live music too!

This year was our first visit to Goa, and we went to Candolim. What a fantastic time we had, we stayed at the Dona Alcina, which has had some terrible reports, but it was no worse than some places we have stayed at in Greece. The staff at the hotel were out of this world, the food at the hotel restaurant was excellent on most days, I think it depended on which chef was on duty, but all in all, we enjoyed it.

The beach shacks are great, we tended to eat at Bobbies Shack, because we got on so well with Sanjay, we are back in Goa in Jan next year, and are really looking forward to seeing Sanjay, Kenny, and Bobby. Roll on 2007, oops, wishing my life away here. :D

OK Lez, how many shacks did you visit in your 28 days :?: glad this thread came up was wondering how much CWT made out of this.

I'm not in the running I only visited about 4 in 14 days will try to do better next time  but we did enjoy all but one so 3 out of 4 isn't to bad 8)

Candolim is great and would definately go back. We drove through Calungute and glad we were not staying there although I'm sure it suits other people.

Phoenix Park Inn Resort is clean, friendly staff and good location.

Sea and Sand is great shack as it's quieter and you don't feel you are on top of other people. Staff are great too and will do anything to make you have a good day.

I'm going to Candolim on 15th December for 2 weeks. Have been to Candolim before but never for Christmas - has anyone been there over Christmas before? Don't know what to expect!

Anyway, I love Candolim, I think it's fab.

My favourite shack is Tidal Wave

I have spent Xmas and New year in Candolim it was a great experience however be prepared for it to be very busy, have to queue for a table in a good restaurant and it can take 1.5 hours to do Candolim to Calangute in a taxi!!

I loved it but prefer Candolim in Nov or last 2 weeks of Jan as slightly quieter and a lot cheaper to travel!!

just noticed your earlier post, where you ask if the Phoenix park is 10-15 from the main road.
It's only 2 minutes from the road and about 10-15 to the beach.
