Hi all
I have booked an holiday with a hotel chain over the phone where they hold your room until 6.00pm of your arrival date. However if you are going to be arriving after this time they need your card details. My flight is not due to arrive until 4.30pm and I may get to the hotel after the 6.00pm. They told me in a email that if I were to arrive after the time I must let them have the card no. by email, is this safe? I worry about how secure it is, I don't want someone using my credit card numbers.

I wouldn't put my card details in an email - you don't know who is looking at it. Better to perhaps give the hotel a call and give the details over the phone.
Pippa. I think you are inviting trouble if you divulge sensitive information such as Credit/Debit card details in an email. I am not a PC technophobe but I would have serious doubts about the security and safety of including card details in an email that could easily be forwarded on, all be it in error, to another address not associated with the Hotel.
I'm not sure I would agree that a telephone call to the Hotel would be any more secure, but personally I would choose this option over the first one.
I agree totally with I'm not sure I would agree that a telephone call to the Hotel would be any more secure, but personally I would choose this option over the first one.
Definitely do not send your credit card details in an email as it is not secure and not encrypted as in a secure website. Personally I would call the hotel and give them the number over the phone.
If you can get access to a fax machine, send the details that way.
Thanks for the replies. Yes I am thinking of either contacting the hotel chain or hotel itself. I did have my doubts, and wondered if anyone had actually done it. I know emails are not like the official booking sites and are not encrypted.
Thank you again

Can you not pay for it online now?
I have already provisionally booked over the phone my accomodation with no money up front. They hold your room up to 6pm without having to use a credit card.
But since I booked I have arranged my flights and due to the time I arrive it is possible I may get to the hotel after 6pm, and so now need the card no to "hold the room"
I emailed them to actually confirm my booking, because I felt a bit uncomfortable not having the booking "in writing" They emailed with the confirmation of booking, and mentioned the 6pm rule and wanting me to supple them with the nos if I was arriving after this time.
I will probably contact the company and tell them the situation regarding my flight and they will probably take my no over the phone.
