Im still waiting for someone to stay at the Mobor Beach Resort

I have a Friend who is going in 3 weeks staying at the Haati Mahal, they have promised to nip in and have a look for me, the few reviews I have read on the net don't seem too bad so i'm not that concerned :)

You have shamed me into doing a couple of reviews; Coco Banannas in Calungute (great!), Solititude Dream Woods in Patnem (avoid like the plague), Ivons Guesthouse in Arambol (great value basic accommodation with really friendly host family), Park Lane Lodge in Panjim (cheap tiny outhouse with 8 am checkout time!), Gaffinos in Morjim (friendly small hotel), Bhutti Kutr in Palolem (picturesque but full of yoga aloof types). I'd better get writing!

We only stayed three nights in Cavelolissm and found Gaffinos in my Rough Guide. It is a nice friendly family run small hotel/guesthouse with a very popular restaurant. The staff were very accommodating.
We met a couple staying in the Mobor Beach Hotel. They said they were quite apprehensive about what to expect since it seemed to be a small hotel. However they were really pleased with it once they arrive; I think quite a large part of it is time share and not available to the package tours. We didn't go in but from the outside it looked very nice; quite big and clean. It is nearly opposite the Haathi Mathal and right next to the red dust path down to the beach (five minutes walk if that). There is building work at the back...but don't expect any cranes or bull dozers...just men really grafting in the heat. The walk to the beach ends with Gaffinos' horse ranch (!) and their Beach Shack. This is owned by the same family (a lot of brothers) but run by a geordie woman. She's very friendly and its fine if you like that kind of thing.
The beach has probably about ten Beach shacks, all fairly closely packed together. If you turn right you reach deserted streches with no shacks no beds. The sand there is beautiful and soft but hard at the water's edge. We hired bikes from fat willies shack (400 for two for the day) and cycled down towards Colva. It was a lovely day, very hot thirsy work! We explored a bit inland at Benaulim which had a nice feel about it.
Several of the hotels around the Mobor stretch are upmarket and popular with russians (not many smiles there). I preferred the bit of beach further to the left of Fat Willies.
Ermmm. We normally go the north and I must admit I prefer it up there but it may just be our bias because we found Candolim etc first. Make sure you get out and about and explore a bit; Patnem and Palolem aren't far away for you and the food there really good.
Enjoy!
