No need to get visa before you go, when you land you have to fill out a form, one each and pay your money then.
Works out more expensive buying it from DR embassy before you go. We have been twice and never had a problem buying when you arrive.

Thanks for the advice Rhonda much appreciated. Are there a lot of queues for the Visas when you arrive?

No you get your visa's when you land you fill them out when you get in the terminal
We didn't even fill ours out. Just go to passport control with the money and they will give you back a form to fill in before you leave the Dom Rep.
You then have to wait around for ages for those who stopped to pick up forms and fill them in before going to passport control.

Sounds good to me! The less hassle the better after a 10 hour flight!

I'm off to DR in July this year. I read somewhere that you can get your entry visas beforehand, so you dont have to stand in the huge queue on arrival (like we did last time!). Is the only place you can get these entry visas on the plane? or can you fill them in and pay for them somewhere in the UK before you leave??
i really want to avoid the queue as i've got 2 small children in tow this year and dont want to have to wait with them in the heat etc!!

Who are you flying with?
I am going in July also but leave on the 17th, I am flying with Thomas Cook, and have been advised that the tourist cards are apart of the price of the holiday, so I will receive them when I get my tickets. Good to find out from your tour operator if they are included first.

we're flying with thomson (and whoever their carrier is!). i'll call today and check before i get them from the embassy), i really want to avoid the queue though!.
where are you staying? we live near london but flying from birmingham (how crazy is that
?) we could save more flying from there for some reason, so we're not complaining!!

Last year we got our DR tourist cards on arrival in the DR, did not take us long and we still had to wait for our luggage.We are off again in 4 weeks to the DR and will do the same again.

If you are a UK national (or from a lot of other countries as per list) you only need a Tourist card.

Just thought I would let everone know the tourist card have now gone up to £10 when you send for them from the Embassy. Just got mine back I belive they went up on the 1st of July. Hope this helps.

In the DR the tourist card are $10, which is just over £6.00, so is cheaper out there, they do not take long to fill in neither.

Does anyone know the current address of the embassy in England to apply for visas? Also, whats the current price? We did this last year, and it was so much better than waiting til we got to our destination!

we didnt apply for the visa in advance. they gave out the small paper forms on the plane just before landing. When we landed, you walk to a desk, pay your ten dollars, walk to another desk, they check the form, stamp it. You then walk to another desk, they scan the form, and thats it your in.
there were no queues - lots of desks to use, so personally i wouldnt bother with applying in advance
