the best way to decribe baksheesh....
In Egypt everyone is friendly.
In England if I were to ask you the directions to the nearest supermarket you would no doubt go out of your way to direct me, or if you were going in that direction you would maybe say "I am going that way, I will show you" having done so you would probably go on your way and feel quite pleased with yourself for your good deed. In Egypt, if someone were to show you the way to a supermarket, they would do so with a smile, but............
they would expect to be rewarded for their trouble, that is baksheesh....

That makes it a lot clearer and is along the lines I thought, so it is also part of the culture of Egypt and not just tipping as we would understand it.
