İ would love some feedback from people who live permanently in the Marmaris area and surrounding areas. Tell me what your resort/town is like. İs there a school? İs it busy or laidback?
Hoping for some help in choosing a nice area to live.
Thanks
Alison
its a lot different than being on holiday. I know that sounds stupid but there are several things to consider before making the plunge. firstly...earning money here is very difficult. Wages are poor and sometimes not paid at all. The schools only teach in Turkish so children have to learn fast. Work permits are hard to come by and if you are in competiton with locals be prepared for a rough time. It takes some time to find out the true price of things. The colour of your skin can raise prices quite considerably. Try to get opinons of several people living here, if you have some income from a uk source then life here can be wonderful.
And thankyou for your reply. İm not actually new to living in Turkey; İve been living in Kusadasi on and off for the past 16 years (been here permanently since 2002) but we feel its now time to move on; and the Marmaris area or Antalya seem favourites.
Unfortunately İve only ever been to the İcmeler once on a cold winter days back in 2002. Have never looked around Marmaris or the nearby towns.
İnstead of driving around everywhere and having a look (which wont tell me much about the place) İ thought that hearing from expats who have made the move there would be an easier option Also with work commitments we cant always get away for a couple of days at a time.
Schools are very important as our 2 sons are both at school (daughter still a baby). Language isnt a problem for them thankfully. İ would love to hear more about the school your daughter attends; do they have a website?
Sorry for rattling on

Ally as you have said you also may be interested in Antalya I thought I would pop a few lines on for you about gods country I live on the western edge of the city in Konyaalti which is a great place to live as we have proximity to the beach (100 meters) and are only 5 km from the town center. Biggest advantages of here are plenty to do and see even in the winter as it doesent close down out of season ( I know a lot stays open in Marmaris as well) better weather in winter as we are other side of the Taurus mountains, airport is open all year, plenty of sports opportunities, very good choice of private schools at good prices, choice of good hospitals including university hospital and some work opportunities for foriegners. My two boys are 10 and 13 and goto this school Post a Reply
