I am going to the Riu-Vistamar in Amadores April 07 for my honeymoon, and just wanted to know about the cockroaches (or other insects, if any).
Anyone been to this hotel/area and any comments about this?
Thank you
Fiona
There are cockraoches on the island. They are a local inhabitants in the gardens. These are a different kind to those you see in dirty kitchens etc.
It is unlikely you will find them on the resort as most treat the areas to keep them away.
We stay in Gran Canaria at least twice a year and I have only ever seen two in the resort we stay at and these were in the gardens
Last year when I went, saw 2 cockroaches, this year saw a few more, but they really arent that problematic at all - they seem dosile. 150 times better than the wasps and bees that you get in the UK.
you will find there are cockroaches about on all the canary islands, but i wouldn't say it is a major problem. We returned from Playa Taurito on 27 march and saw only one cockroach the whole time we were there. (The German's who saw it had a dicky fit) but it was just on the step outside the hotel.
hi there fiona
i have worked in the riu vustamar and have lived in puerto rico for some years now may i add a fab choice of hotels its absolutley gorg
with cockroaches yes there are some although you tend to find they come out more often in the summer months when its warmer and like to escape into the apartments where its cooler so in april you should not really see them unfortunatley it does not matter whether you go to a 1 star or 5 star there is always the chance you are going to get them however the riu chain use faycanes (the bug sprayers) around every 2 weeks so if you see someone looking like ghost busters thatll be them i really dont think youll have any problems
when your there dont forget to do garbos especially as though you are celebrating something special you will love it and it would be the best night of your holiday by far
