Old Town

O my God!!!

Just got back from Albufeira and the old town looks like a bomb has hit it!!

All the way from the Bus station to the Street of bars has been dug up as they are laying pipes. There is a very simple fenced off pathway that will lead from the bus station but it is only single file so only one person can get down at a time.

All the bars around the square are closed and the top end of the street of bars is also a building site with bars being renovated.

My advice is not to go down and stay in The Strip area.

Regards

The council have said the majority of the work should be finished by mid May. The street from the old bus station to the square should be completed by then, they are making a real effort to get it all done asap. The major pipe laying is all but finished. Which hotel are you booked in to?

Annie, just read your other post. You are closer to the strip than the old town anyway, so I would not worry too much.

Just got back yesterday and the old town is just one big building site at the moment. Don't know what it was like before as it was our first time in the Algarve but we had a brilliant time staying at the Vila Petra and are already trying to book again for October so it will be great to see it all then when it's finished.
