Tip no one the first few minutes you get off the bus, what happens is they break your arm to take up your luggage to your room, expect a tip then you never see them again,
they do not even work in the hotel most of them. so just smile and tell them tomorrow you will tip them as you have no money tonight.
tip the regular workers in the hotels, they are on as little as £2 per day. Its heart breaking, even the estate agent we now know personally was only on £60.00 per month,
makes you feel ashamed when you come back home and see all the waste here.
If its your first time in Bulgaria, you will want back as soon as possible. best place I have been and hope to move there if possible

Just wondered, I'd like to tip the maid at the beginning of the holiday without seeming patronising? (I thought it might be bad manners to put money in peoples hands??) can you just leave it with a note (thankyou in cyrillic?? )

we gave the maids a good tip as we wear leaving and they all seemed very happy!
one thing DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO THE BEGGARS, you will be followd around all day and every time they see you! dont give money to them so they will away because they must tell there mates and the next day there will be two off them!!
you will only see children beggars and dont feal guilty by them putting on the water works! i was watching a couple off them one day and saw them cry one minete and get angery when you wouldent hand out money the next!! the local poeple that are not beggars run the children away from you wich is good at times! be carefull as they are very cunning, dont exept anything as they will make you pay for it double price!!
giving some money is ok as we did but do it quickly and walk away fast so that they do not follow!

Im goin out to bulgaria tomorrow and read many reviews but was wondering is there a 'standard' tip to leave the staff.. ie cleaners, bar staff etc as im going to do it on first day to get better service

but they always seemed very grateful for what ever we left

we always save all our loose change (small demoninations) in a glass or cup in our room andd at the end of our stay add a few notes for the cleaner, and leave any toiletries with a thankyou note

is it better to tip in english notes rather than lev,,, i know they have to be unmarked new notes if english,, just wondering if it is best to tip in english notes,,and how much is the usual standered tip (if there is such thing )

If you tip in Sterling, the recipient wil only have to change it into Leva to be able to spend the cash, so you may as well tip in Leva in the first place.

Around 10% tip should be more than acceptable.

Can anyone tell me is it usual to tip in the hotels people like waiters, maids etc and if so how much do you tip.

hi we were told to tip your cleaner and the barman etc at the start of your holiday and it will go down well with good intentions ,, we are going to tip about the equvilant of say a fiver,, i think this should be enough,,,it is hard when your all inclusive

when we were in Turkey las year we used to give the maid a drink and offer her something to eat. The wife would help her clean up as well as she "enjoys" cleaning.

The maid was great with the kids and everyday we came back there were petals on the beds. When we left she gave us a lovely letter. She got one of her English speaking friends to write it for her. We left all our toiletries and some clothing as we bought that much we couldn't get it home anyway.

Will be treating the maids at Sunny Beach the same because I feel it is really appreciated both ways. And I know that they do work hard, and don't get paid much.
