I stayed in the Averroes last July and found it to be a great Hotel although there wasn't a great deal in the immediate vacinity.There is a theme park close by (Carthage Land),just by the medina.There is also an ice rink next to a fairly good supermarket.
There are a couple of bars and restaraunts close by but these can tend to be pricey.You can catch the noddy train into Hamammet.I think it costs about £4 return.
