Hi, you dont have to pay £10 on entry, think someone is getting mixed up with Turkey there. So far as the currency is concerned you can change that at the airport when you land or your hotel, its a fixed rate wherever you change it so you wont be ripped off. It is true you are charged 30% commission to change Dinars back to sterling, so near the end of your holiday dont change too much money as you are not allowed to bring their currency out of Tunisia, Paul.

Hi .
I was really concerned about the whole money thing before we went a few weeks ago , as i had never been to a country with a closed currency policy like Tunisia . But it all turned out to be quite simple and of course the exchange rate is a set rate. We only took sterling travellers cheques with us in denominations of 50's and 20's and found ourselves only needing to change some into dinars every few days.We did change a little at the airport on arrival , while we were waiting for our baggage. This then gave us some change which was useful for tipping etc. The rest of the time we changed money at our hotel with no problem. Also any dinars we had left when we came to the end of our holiday we used to help pay our hotel bill. although we were glad to keep a bit of small change ( we were told by our holiday Rep that 8 dinars each was allowed through) for the airport as the cafes in the departure lounge take dinars.
hope this helps . Have a great time. wish we were back there !

Hii and many thanks to everyone who responded to my questions on Tunisia, very useful information, I am really looking forward to going on my holiday now, and I will let you all know how I got on. This site is amazing, information all over the place, and helpful members out there.

Just thought of another question are there mosquitos out there, will I need to take my mosquito spray and cream with me so I don't get eaten alive.

Although did not see any mossies my legs and ankles did get bit by something. It could of been the jellyfish in the sea, again did not see any or was told even the little mites in the sand. I'd take it with you just in case

Hi Mandy, I am going in three weeks, really getting excited now, do you have any idea what sort of weather they have and the temperatures for this time of year.

How many times have you been to Tunisia.

I'm off to Sousse tomorrow but unfortunately the weather forecast on Yahoo is indicating quite a few showers next week so I'll pack an umbrella  I never travel without Anthisan cream, which is very useful for any mozzie bites. I'm sure you'll like the Marhaba Club, it has recently been refurbished and looks very nice.

I'm going for a fortnight so I'm hoping for at least some good weather. I usually go out there twice a year so it's a bit like my second home.
Have a wonderful holiday and please do write a report on the hotel when you get back. :fly

You obviously like Tunisia, and you must know the best places to stay, what hotel do you normally stay at, this will be my first visit to Tunisia, and I will write a report on the hotel when I get back, I find it's always best just to go with an open mind to places you have never visited before, and so far I have never been dissapointed.

Apart from the hotels which have consistently bad reports, most of them have their devotees. I usually stay in Sousse though I've also stayed in PEK a couple of times which is nice but different to Sousse. I actually like the Marhaba and the Marhaba Club for their facilities and they have regular entertainment. This time I'm back at the El Hana Residence which didn't have entertainment last October though it has in the past. The food is good and the staff are very friendly. The Marhaba didn't reply to my e-mail whilst the El Hana did (and gave me an excellent price - 30 dinars a day half board - Alpharooms was quoting £266 for the same two weeks).

I do agree about going with an open mind and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Incidentally, I didn't get the usual e-mail to say you had posted, so it's a good job I couldn't resist checking in.

Concerning the Marhaba Club:- :P

Does anyone know if there are tea making facilities in the rooms ie:- kettle, cups etc.

Is there a local shop/supermarket where you can buy milk, tea and other every day items.

Can you drink the water or should you buy bottled.
Can you brush your teeth with their tap water or again should you use bottled.

Is there anything else that I should know that you wouldn't normally think of.

Many thanks in advance. :ghug

Hi.. I have not stayed at the Marhaba Club hotel but have stayed in others however I advise you to pack a travel kettle & cups as none of the hotels I have stayed in have had kettles in the rooms.

The water is fine to brush your teeth but not to drink you will need to buy bottled water this is cheaper from local shops than the hotel, I always take my own coffee, tea, sugar, powdered milk with me though you can get them from the supermarket.

Have a great holiday

we followed similar advice a few weeks ago and took with us a great little travel kettle that we got from Amazon ( only about £6) - did the job just right for our morning tea and and for some hot chocolate when our girls wanted it! a supply of tea bags, sugar and dried milk was also essential. we also planned a little ahead and took a box of wine (purchased at Gatwick) so we could enjoy a glass or two on our balcony before dinner. As we mainly drank bottled water with our evening meal and the occasional coke / fanta . this meant we didn't have to fork out the inflated wine prices which are pretty steep at most hotels.
have a great time

Can someone tell me what type of electrical plugs do they use in Tunisia. :shrug

Will my hairdryer plug in or will I need to buy an adaptor, if so what type, ie same as Spain, Cyprus etc.

Many thanks Lynn

hi Lynn
the sockets are the same as mainland europe ie 2 pin so you will need an adapter. - it might also be worth taking a double plug if you intend taking a few electrical things like phone chargers / kettles etc as some hotel rooms have very few spare sockets unless you unplug the tv / fridge etc. - also check out if your room has a hairdryer - ours at the Thalassa did and it meant all our girls could leave theirs at home ( but the straighteners still had to go!!)
hope this helps
