The best advise would be to contact your GP who can give you up-to-date advise on whether any jabs are required for Morocco.

Snowy, I was stunned reading your post as it seems a totally different Agadir to the one I've just visited - it sounds like you had a culture shock so I hope you'll let me tell the flip side to your coin. I've just this week come back from Agadir and had a lovely time and would definitely go back to Morocco again - in fact I wish I was still there!

So here's another point of view, for those about to go there...

I like to go to different destinations to enjoy the local culture and try to avoid anywhere selling "full English breakfasts"/Brit Pubs (got sick of them in Spain/Greece but that's just me) so if that's what you like, you could be disappointed as we only saw a couple (at most!). The food was fine in our hotel - not top notch cuisine but hearty food all the same, albeit the option to have "chips" with everything and only cous cous once, but hey ho! And they had fresh omelettes for breakfast - looked really tasty (I don't like omelettes though so cant say!). And we had really drinkable beer and wine and rum & cola :D we certainly got our moneys worth that way!!!!

As for getting hassled in the street, Morocco is an Arab country so make sure you ladies fit in - I covered my knees and shoulders (cropped combats/long skirt and cap sleeved T-shirts) around town and never had a single problem yet wore bikinis and short skirts on the beautiful beach and was fine!!!

As for hawkers, we had a few people ask if we'd like to buy sunglasses or watches and just said "No thank you" and they left us alone. We were not bombarded on the beach (just once from the wife of a guy who'd made a beautiful sand camel, decorated with shells and flowers) so I gave him a tip in exchange for letting me take some lovely photos. In fact, the hassle factor was absolutely no where near the amount we had in Turkey or even the Canary islands before, where we got sick of saying "no I do not want a boat trip" every other second.

And we were only asked ONCE if we'd like to eat in a restaurant and we said politely "no thank you" and they wished us a nice day - the total opposite of, say, Greece where we got sick of running the guantlet every evening and we got sick of saying no thanks, no thanks.

As for the people, we thought they were lovely and friendly. And the armed police on horseback... well the horses were gorgeous and loved a fuss every day. I felt utterly safe there, we never saw any crimes or accidents. I'd rather have police around to protect the tourists than not...

So if you're about to go there, please go in the knowledge that this is a safe, gentle and friendly Arab country. If you can fit in with their way of life, respect and enjoy their culture, know that you'll be getting something different from the European destinations, then you'll have a great holiday.

It was in the sunday times.

Morocco travel alert.

Morocco security authorites have been warned by european intelligence agencies to expect terroist attacks on tourist targets this summer.

Sources in Rabat confirmed that a message had been recieved.."warning of a potential attacks targetting administrive finical and tourist spots as well as certain embassies and foregin interests in Morocco".

the information was recieived in part from german investigators after the interrogration of Noth Afircan terror supects in Frankfurt.

Morroccan anti-terrorisit officers recently arrested nine suspected militants.

The Foreign office and commonwealth office warns of "a high threat from terrorisim in Morocco" but has stopped short of advertising against non- essential visits.

Thats what was said in the Sunday Times.

My Hubby is going to ring around tomorrow and find out whats going on.

Sadly they are still selling holidays to Morocco because they have capacity to fill and they are hoping you wont see this warning.Thats how the travel trade works I`m sorry to say.
That being said I think everywhere, including the spanish mainland could be a potential target. The world is full of crackpots these days. Also one of the terrorists greatest weapons is to spread the `fear `of attacks among tourists. That way they get a result without taking any action.
good luck

Im going to Morocco this Friday and the bad review above certainly gave me doubts! Do you recommend covering your sholdors and ankles then? I only have shorts and strappy tops!! Should I invest in some more appropriate clothes?
Also is it cool at night? Can I get away with wearing dress and skirts, etc.

Thanks in advance to whoever answers! x

:glynis Well ive got 6 weeks on wed to wait for my hol. All i can say is i hope everyone who is going there have a fantastic time and dont worry too much about terrorist reports. Im sure that if it gets that bad we will hear from the tour operators. They wont put peoples lives at risk just for the sake of money. Put it this way if anything happens they would have to pay out a hell of a lot more than giving us our money back for cancelling the holiday.

Maybe im optimistic but i always think that if your going to go you may as well do it while you're enjoying yourself :!: :!:

You could get hit by a car crossing the road!!

Again i hope everyone has a great time.
